Lasik and one other enhancement have been on my wishlist for some time. Obviuosly vision is a huge deal and not to be taken lightly. I'm looking for feedback from those of you who've had it or know people who have and the results.
Geez they say I'm a rock star now can you imagine if I could actually see what I was doing :)) lol

Thx in advance

It's been 3 great years since I've had the surgery! I can't remember what it's like to have to wear glasses/contacts anymore. Even though I'll still require reading glasses in the future, it's been worth every cent! There was one temporary side effect I did notice. When I was driving at night, any headlight/streetlight had a halo effect. If I didn't think about it, I didn't really notice it, and eventuall it went away. Or I just ignore it now. Good luck.

My two cents....

I have two thoughts.

One, you get what you pay for. I have been thinking about it for a while, and one thing I will not do is go for the cheapest available. I have put in my mind $5k as the cost. It may be a bit cheaper now, but if you start looking at the 500-1000 per eye places, these are volume places with less focus on quality control. Just my opinion, but your eyes are too valuable to start bargain shopping.

Secondly, the night vision thing. This has everything to do with the size of your pupils, and the doctor who does the initial consultation with you should be able to assess this. The laser only covers a certain area - and if you have pupils that are bigger than average, then at night you may have problems when they dialate - they get even bigger and the laser may not have covered enough area to take care of the larger, dialated pupil.

Good luck,

Blade

Ok Myth verses fact

Cost 5k

I had 20/400 and 20 430 vision with severe stigmatism in both eyes and paid about 1300.00 US at Lasik MD in Niagara Falls , Ontario.

Night vision loss is possible
but remember this is an invasive proceedure and some risk is involved.
And you can use Glasses to correct it for driving........................Get over the risk.

Need for using a wetting solution or tears.

Ok this is my hell

You guessed it I would do it again in a heart beat.

Deal with a professional who will not do your eyes if they are not fit for the procedure

Six years ago for me...

And no night vision, no haloing, no dry eye, no nothing..

I paid the $5K (not a myth then!) and don't regret one cent of it.

It's interesting

that all of the negative comments are from those that have either decided not to do the procedure or have not yet done it.
All the the comments from people who have done it are quite positive.
No conclusions, just my way of wasting bandwidth.

I was Lasiked two years ago. I had to go back for an "enhancement" on one eye and now have dry-eye in that eye requiring a lot of drops in the winter. No regrets, though.

There is a new version of Lasik where the flap is cut by a laser instead of a microkeratome (blade). I'm not sure it's available in Canada yet, but it might be worth waiting for.

Actually, TLC does offer "intralase" as it's called.

There was a thread about this a few months back. When search starts working again, take a look.

I had one eye done a few years ago. Can you imagine what its like when they have this major apparatus fastened to your eye, they cut the flap, and then the doctor says "Uh oh! That's going to sting later! Oh yeah, that's not good!" :(

I suppose all's well that ends well, but I will say that I decided not to have the second eye done. I see pretty well, no more glasses or contacts, but I can definitely notice how the lasered eye has become far-sighted. If I had both eyes done, I would need reading glasses for sure.

I'm not discouraging you from going ahead with the procedure. However, as strongly as possible, I recommend having the eyes done at separate times. The extra inconvenience is well worth the added safety! If I'd had both eyes done, I would not have been able to drive for at least three weeks (or play baseball, or ski, or anything that requires decent vision).

here, there and everywhere!
Remeber that the procedure is still listed as experimental (whatever that means)
A friend who is a commercial pilot looked into it and was told that he would lose his commercial rating for two years after the surgery and would only have it reinstated if his vision tested fine after that time period. (Commercial pilots with his company require semiannual medicals including a full vision test. Contacts (within limits) are OK, but lasik is not, in their esteemed opinion)

I guess I will pass on $490 per eye Lasik in the Mississauga News. Go for new contacts and glasses for half the price. I need to retain my ability to fly a Qantas 747-800 in the event of a high jacking!
