I was in a big box retailer recently looking for a new laptop, and they told me to wait a couple of weeks until the wave of new product comes in for "Back to School"

New product and better prices....what do you guys think?

There's generally a truckload of new stuff in August and retailers price it to drop for labor day.

If you can live without it till then, wait a month. Then again, every few months the current techie bling is reinvented.

On the other hand, they need to blow out the old product before the new back to school product arrives ...

Figure out what you need, and buy appropriately. If the older stuff works for you, time it and look for a good special.

This trend continues as PC prices continue to drop.

The margins on computers are not really high enough to make it worthwhile IMHO.

I would wait until the end of August, see what is available. Most retailers will have some "old" stock on hand, and if not I'm sure you will be able to order from Future Schlock or Best Bye online.

Asus laptop

Here's an example of the great deals out now for $499.99 in WNY.

Asus is making laptops now and this dual core laptop looks/feels like it is solidly made and pretty loaded, even has a numerical number pad. It comes with 64 bit Vista with a free upgrade to Windows 7. Oh and Asus includes Vista OS install discs.
