My son dropped his IBM Thinkpad and the screen display is no longer functioning.

Can anyone recommend a good repair place? I had to scrap the last one and at $1500 a pop, that hurts.

Also what brand stands up to abuse the best?

Thanks

hmmmmm, i think you are gonna be in for a shock

in 10 years in my job, i have had about 8 laptops. 4 have required screen service. Good thing they were all under warranty, either a Dell 3 year warranty or i paid with my amex which doubled the warranty.

Anyways, i saw all the invoices and screen repairs and or replacements are not cheap.

All the repairs were $1000 and up.

Broken screen? [cracked visibly] or merely not working? if the latter, then you should be able to take this device to pc outlet or the notebook store on queen east for repairs.

Got lots of laptops in service. over the years, the ones that have stood up best to being abused have been Toshiba Sattelite notebooks and Compaq Armada and Evo N series notebooks.

i tend to run equipment til it completely fails and for the most part I get about 5 good years of service out of these things.

the one thing that will cause me to strip a notebook for parts to repair other ones [and ditch the wreckage leftover] is if the screen is damaged. the screens are the single most expensive subsystem and the most difficult to source parts for.

Hard drives and memory for notebooks tend to be easily gotten for not huge amounts of money.

the key is to pick GOOD solid reliable equipment in the first place.

I've also used thinkpads and HP branded notebooks and have nothing to say about them beyond "they exist".
