Hey guys Im no techie by any means so thought Id throw it out here. My laptop suddenly displays a white screen when I turn it on. I close and shut down and after a few attempts opens and works fine but its getting more and more frequent and takes more times to get it working. Obviously something wrong and will take it in to get looked at if need be but thought Id throw it out to you guys/gals. Thanks

I had a problem like that some time back. Try connecting a 2nd display when u get the white screen to make sure that the primary display has not been altered and always good to do a backup when you have any kind of problems.

If u can try to reinstall the driver.

Telling us how old it is and brand/model may help to.

First guess, and it's only a guess (and probably a guess you've made, yourself) would be that the connector in the hinge, between the main board and the screen, is failing. Call a specialty shop (e.g. http://www.ottawalaptops.com/ or a local equivalent) and ask for a quote.

Thanks for your thoughts. Turned out it was a bad battery...I took the battery out and used only the power cord and it was good as new. Well except having to buy a new batter at $120. lol

Just curious.
How long did your battery last?

Not sure if you where being funny - but backing up is the best advice with laptops and all your devices, tablets, smart phones et all. Too frustrating to loose all your data.
absolutely! yeah even lightly used storage in netbooks, laptops, and other mobile gadgets can can crap out, even ifya gentle.

backup anything you care about...also good to use encryption, then if device dies, then who cares, don't have to be paranoid about erasing it or destroying it.

FWIW, I never keep important stuff/files on laptops.
Just don't trust them.
Believe they are just too fragile. All you have to do is drop one the wrong way and it may be toast!
They say many are scrapping their desktops for laptops but IMHO that is just too risky, unless you religiously back your important stuff up to an external HDD.
