My laptop has a cd rw/ dvd r drive, I wanting to upgrade to DVD burner , are all laptop drives universal in mounting?, is it something I can do myself easily?
is there anything to be careful or watch out for?
I know my way around a desktop machine and have swapped many drives over the years, I'm just not sure about the laptops.
Thanks

Make of lap top makes a difference
My think pad it just pops out when you push a tab but mine will not support a DVD R/RW but an IBM one fits in ( it is an older slow one )

you may have to buy the make and model that your laptop fits and supports

They're not universal, but replacement drives for various makes are readily available at eBay and the like. However, it's much more difficult than a desktop installation unless you know your way around a laptop or have a service manual. Generally, the only thing that's easy to upgrade in a laptop is memory. If you have to ask, you should probably be looking at professional installation or an external DVD/RW drive.

Perhaps another alternate is to invetigate using a seperate USD DVD burner drive.
