Arguably a step in the right direction, but a paltry one.
The language used in this column is still skewed against sex workers, and paints a narrow portrait of what sexwork really is. Someone who provides support services for a sex worker is not necessarily a pimp (exploitative, violent, drug habit enabling...), and we know this here. Look at Peter, George, Steph, and the other agency owners who represent the girls, providing location and marketing support. They are nothing like the image this journalist is trying to portray. The same goes for the many anonymous bookers, drivers, webdesigners for the indies in the city and abroad.
Providing support and exit strategy for those who want to leave ineffectual when the entire society where these services are provided regards sex workers as exploited. It's worse when you're in an state that is mainly comprised of small conservative towns, like Maine, Vermont, or New Hampshire. Word gets out, the stigma remains, as does the shunning.
