Well, so much for that fantasy about Joe Biden becoming the next FDR.

Given that it appears Biden will be sworn in as president and the Republicans will continue to control the Senate, Biden is probably looking at two years or more of mostly gridlock.

That means most of the Green New Deal is effectively dead, along with the trillions in planned tax hikes that were supposed to pay for it.

So is the dream of creating new states to improve the Democrats' chances in the electoral college vote.

Packing the Supreme Court? Fuggetaboutit.

If anything, the election showed the Americans' supposed new-found love of socialism was vastly overrated.

Here's an excellent article on the same theme. This one is by Kyle Smith at National Review, and the headline accurately says it all: The progressive agenda is dead.

It's the perfect result for the Right wing and the "populist left" though.
The fake left get to blame Biden for not passing things despite McConnell blocking it and any deals that Biden does make will be spun as proof how he was a right winger all along.
For the right wing, there is a good chance this leads to massive mid term losses (because the news will blame Biden for not getting anything done) and then 2024 gets even uglier.
Add in that there is no way to reform the courts with this and the progressive gains over the last 50 years are all in danger of being rolled back.
The economic damage and the really difficult work of recovering from COVID all get to be laid at Biden's feet - Trump's role will vanish down the memory hole.

There is a lot of damage that can be mitigated with the Dems having the House and the Presidency, but no real progress can be made structurally and there is a whole media ecosystem that would rather Republicans rule than Dems pass anything progressive.

They had it all in 2008. Didnt end the wars, didn't get universal healthcare, no justice reform. And only bailed out banks and corporations while allowing 500,000 foreclosures to happen.

They had it but the RIGHT WING DEMOCRAT members of Congress blocked anything meaningful.

Both parties to blame. If the Dems were serious all they have to do is hold military budgets and porkbarrelling hostage. And the president can order the troops home anytime.

Be dismissive of the truth if you like. But the divide continues to be fanned.

And the treasury continues to be looted. Income inequality is very real danger. That neither party will address.

I hope that the Dems win the seats in Georgia. It will prove they have no interest in helping.

They can Blame Joe Manchin.
