I've been suffering for about 6 months now. Went down hard while mountain biking in June and I'm going through the "Freezing" part of Frozen Shoulder. I didn't even know this condition existed until about 3 months ago. Many people are either getting it or have had it. Its the new Carpal Tunnel Syndrome of the millenium. It has three phases; the freezing, the frozen and the unfreezing. I have been going to physiotherapy since the beginning of December. This includes electro pulse, acu-puncture, never-ending stretching and strength building. I'm taking my first session with an RMT next week.

This is one of the most painful things I have gone through. It constantly aches. I have about 25% of my mobility and flexibility with my right arm. I go to bed around 10:00 or 11:00 and wake up at 1:30am and spend the rest of the night either watching TV or trying to get back to sleep. Pain killers don't do a damn thing.

Sorry to whine and I know this is TERB and not some medical board but has anybody noticed an increase in this type of injury. I personally believe its due to our use of the computer mouse and not so much my biking injury. Does anybody know of a good medical discussion board that I could tap into.

One thing I have had good success with (but its early) is Doctor Ho's muscle therapy. Its a portable unit that runs on two triple A batteries. It sends an electrical pulse that can be increased or decreased for either 10 or 20 minutes. The package comes with a VCR tape that explains how to use it. Its supposed to be good for neck, shoulder, lower back, rotator cuff pain, Migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, groin strain, sinus headaches, etc. I only started using it yesterday but haven't felt as flexible and free of pain since....early July.

sounds as if you have some nerve damage. Or deep tissue swelling causing pressure on a nerve. I would personaly seek a neurologist, who would likely order a MRI and CAT SCAN. While neither is 100% it beats guessing. Likely the damage is spinal.

Not sure about the discussion board in www.webmd.com as I usually find what I need on the board itself.

I'm sure your physio suggested heat/ice for pain management. If Dr. Ho is working for you, for relief, try applying Deep Cold therapy ICE to the affected area. It worked wonders for my back, my 5th disc gets out of place with pinch nerve that I can't sleep for weeks. Deep Cold is approved by Chiropratic Canada, keep it in Fridge to really penerate down to affected area.

I'm no medical professional but agree with Papasmerf, a relative had problem with her shoulder that experts claimed was in her mind but turned out to be nerve related.

Macator2003, if you find condition don't improve, you may want to try a good Accupressure person. # of my sport teammates swear by it, as it penetrate deep down into the affected area for faster healing. Our sport tend to injure the shoulder and back, nerves, etc. Most recover after few sessions and restore 60-90% in time for competition. No shill. PM me if you want the phone # of that Accupressure person or look up a recommended one. The session is not covered by OHIP and you have to withstand major pain as this lady brought # of men to tears as her fingers are that stronge. The good news is its not uncommon for the injuried person to be able to lift arm after 1 session, but YMMV.

Thanks for all your advice. I'm going in for an X-ray, ultra-sound and a possible MRI. Went to an RMT last week. I will be seeing my physiotherapist and the RMT a couple of times a week for the next month or two.

From what I've been told and read, I don't think its nerve damage. The fluid disappears from around the shoulder socket, making any movement of the arm very uncomfortable and restrictive. I have spoken to at least 6 people as of the last week that have had this affliction. They all attribute it to their use of the Computer mouse....be careful out there!!
