I have some how have reasigned the Caps Lock key to open my home page.

I know it has something to do with the key having two functions so how the heck do i reasign it back to the Caps Lock function? Microsofts web site was useless.

I have reinstalled the software to no avail. I ran a virus scan just for the hell of it. I tried to reassign the key to no avail. I tried to edit the key to no avail. Would uninstalling the software and reinstalling the software fix the problem? I'm stumped.

I am using a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro and have the latest drivers installed. Any help would be appreciated. --- Kev

Have you tried to change the keyboard properties in the control panel?

When you reinstalled the drivers.. did you go into the system properties and delete the keyboard... restart and let windows detect your new hardware?

i am surprised that nobody has said that you would not be having this problem... if you had a Mac

MY computer was working fine, and then all of sudden i hit the Caps Lock key and its opening my home page. I thought i picked up a virus even thought i have software protection installed. I ran virus scan just to make sure that was not the problem. I then tried to reinstall the software. (and no i didn't do this)

I was hoping this was a last resort. I have spent 2 hours in the Control Panel > Keyboards trying to troubleshoot this problem. As well as spending to much time at Microsofts website. I think it has something to do with Function Lock key. At least from what i am able to make out.

.....and no i didn't try reinstalling Internet Explorer. How would that help? --- Kev

No i don't WIYD, but i can get one from work tomorrow.

I should also point out that my home page only opens when i am at my desk top. If i have a webpage already open (like TERB) then the Search page to the left opens up.

Also why does my Num Lock key open Music Match. This is all new. I'm running virus scan again something fishy going on. --- Kev

Try start -> run -> msconfig, then click on the "startup" tab and look for anything that might be defining hot-keys, shortcut keys, or similar. You may have to do a google-groups search on each utility that Windows starts to find out what it does.

It sounds like something you might have downloaded came with a utility that allows you to assign common functions to keyboard keys. Unfortunately, it came pre-programmed with some bad habits.

I would have to agree with you pineappleguy. But how to fix it is another problem. I just uninstalled the software for the keyboard and went into Device Manager to delete the keyboard and then reinstalled everything as WIYD suggested that didn't help.

So what i have now is.........my Caps Lock Key opens the search page..............my Num Lock key opens Musicmatch............my ALT Key opens the Calculator.

I also see that my Auto-Protect in my Anti Virus was not Enabled. So i think i did pick up something from some site i shouldn't have been at. Anyway thanx all i'm still trying to work it out. --- Kev

You didn't mention any other problems with your keyboard, other than caps lock opening your home page. Reinstalling IE might break whatever link is causing that. It can't do any harm, and it will take a lot less than two hours to troubleshoot the problem this way. I'm not saying it will work, but you have nothing to lose trying.
