Kanye West: I’m ‘Distancing Myself From Politics’
Rapper Kanye West announced on Twitter Tuesday that he would be “distancing [him]self from politics” and denied any real connection to “Blexit” merchandise. “My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in,” the rapper tweeted. “I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative !!!”
He also distanced himself from Blexit, the campaign reportedly aimed to “encourage black Americans to quit the Democratic Party.” It was previously reported that West designed the logo used on Blexit’s merchandise, but in a tweet, West claimed he simply introduced Candice Owens to the person who made it. “They didn’t want their name on it so she used mine,” he wrote. “I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it.” West has been sporting “Make America Great Again” apparel in recent months and recently visited President Trump in the Oval Office.
