i just finished watching season one of the Justice league. should i watch all the previous series before justice league or stick to justice league and justice league unlimited?

The DC animated universe primarily consists of these animated series (and their related films; see below):

Batman: The Animated Series (1992–1995 on Fox)

The New Batman Adventures (1997–1999 on The WB)

Superman: The Animated Series (1996–2000 on The WB)

The New Batman/Superman Adventures (1997–2000 on The WB)

Batman Beyond (1999–2001 on The WB)

The Zeta Project (2001–2002 on The WB)

Static Shock (2000–2004 on The WB)
Justice League (2001–2004 on Cartoon Network)

Justice League Unlimited (2004–2006 on Cartoon Network)

Films
The following spin-off films, theatrical feature films and direct-to-video, also are part of the DCAU continuity:

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero (1998)
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (2000)
Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman (2003)

Intrigued

Don't forget Young Justice it's a great spin off show. Showing a different side to our favorite heroes as mentors to the young and up coming. I would give batman beyond a chance if you love batman and want to see his new predecessor with new and high tech. I would finish justice league first and follow the story lines.

P.S. What sites do you use to stream these?

Love the most recent Justice Series and Justice League Unlimited series. From the storylines to the voice talent, it made me watch a cartoon, and I don't watch cartoons.

Justice League is the last crown jewel in the DC universe, and I pray Warner Brothers doesn't fuck it up when the big screen treatment arrives in 2015/2016.

DC's animation dept is definately top notch. But I'm pretty meh on the big screen treaments(other than Batman of course!).
Simple fact is that the Characters aren't as interesting as the Marvel characters. The backstories and character archtypes in DC just don't cut it.
The lastest set of Batman movies wouldn't fit with the formation of the Justice League.
They need a good movie...an "Iron Man" if you will to get it started.
Beacause they sure blew it with the last Superman and Green Lantern movies.

They are going to need a 3 hour movie to do it justice.Marvel was very smart to introduce their characters in seperate movies and then bring them together.Man of Steel looks promising. I've heard rumours Wonder woman will make a cameo in it.The biggest uphill battle will be introducing and getting audiences to accept a new Batman.Christian Bale was the definite batman so far.Green Latern was the shits.Ryan Reynolds should have done Deadpool. Much more suited to his talents.

Batman TAS
new Batman adventures
Superman TAS
Batman Beyond

+ movies

Are all worthwhile seeing before JL and JLU though not required. Some episodes of JL and JLU refer to continuity in the previous series. IMO all the batman stuff is top notch.

PS.Young Justice is not a spinoff of the DCAU

The one that started it all was Batman TAS. Grim, moody, not the comic comedy of the 60's.

Batman Beyond went even deeper. Too bad it only lasted 2 seasons.

Young Justice is better than Justice League. The storylines are much grittier.

I would give a shot at Superman TAS. But all other cartoon series, I would pass cause they are more geared for children.

Animated movies I would recommend are

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman
Superman: Doomsday
Superman: Brainiac Attacks
Justice League: The New Frontier
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern: First Flight
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
Batman: Under the Red Hood
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights
Justice League: Doom
The Dark Knight Returns - Part 1 & 2

If I didn't list any others, they aren't worth watching.

Heck, don't forget Teen Titans and Legion of Superheroes, which are more kid-anime oriented.
And, now showing on TV: Green Lantern TAS and Young Justice
