Is anyone planning to take in any of the Canadian Junior A Championship since it's on our doorstep in Mississauga?

The media spends so much time just talking NHL that the playoff run the dogs have been on has been ignored . Heck the Rock are doing well also but they are ignored .
I was listening to McCowan and Melnyk interview yesterday and Bob pretty much hit it in the head with Mississauga. Junior team's cannot built an identity in a suburb of a large market. Mississauga does not have separate TV, separate radio, separate news - those are all delievered from Toronto which has "bigger" things to talk about. Their junior teams just get loss in the shuffle of what is going on in the big city.

A city like K-W, has its own radio stations, CTV affiliates, own newspapers. The Rangers are a big story in all of these media, sometimes the lead story, and its much easier to get the community involved.

I have lived in a city around 70K in the city and surrounding 20km area that had an OHL team, and there was a huge vibe for the team accross the entire city for any big games or playoff series. That just won't happen in Mississauga or Toronto.

In a smaller town people can get caught up into the hype of junior hockey. In Mississauga, you can only attract the hardcore junior fan.

Pretty much the same story as any minor league sport. They work best in mid sized markets.

Not to nitpick but the Jr. A Championship is the RBC Cup (in Camrose this year), not the Memorial Cup.

The IceDogs playoff run ended a week ago when they were knocked out by the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors.

Oddly enough, if OS does beat them, they both go; Mississauga as host and OS as Champion.
They have both already clinched a spot regardless of who wins.

You're absolutely right. It's been a long day.

I was really sorry when the Majors went to Mississauga from their original home, but I understand why. The old arena was a great place to watch them ply their trade..

I went to one of the Gatineau-St.John QMJHL final games this week & the atmosphere is great. Nothing like a small rink to watch a game where the fans are so close to the ice. They have a tail gate party set up outside Guertin arena, where they sell beer at 2/$7 and you can bring it into the rink. This St. John team is loaded with two expected first round NHL prospects. It's 3-2 Sea Dogs right now & the main reason it is not over is because of Olympiques goalie Maxime Clermont. I am going to game 6 tomorrow night instead of watching game one of the Canucks-Sharks series.

I really like Les Olympiques new uniforms with the purple and orange and the new logo. I was hoping Portland would be the champs of "The Dub", but Kootenay will still put up a good fight for the other teams next week.

Go Owen Sound! Woot! Woot! St. Mike's is trying to relive past glory... Those days are long gone.

Yep, it was quite the game! The 'Piques were 23 seconds from sending it back to St. John for game 7! Gotta love Quebec liquor laws......they sold beer throughout overtime! I like the road orange sweaters as well!

Who's playing in the Finals tonight? I'm so torn so, like a Habs/Leafs game, I'm gong to crack a wobbly pop or two, some salsa and corn chips, then watch the game.
