It's been an awful signing and he's the worst plus minus on the team. Playing him the next 50 games makes no sense as his career is over this year. Jets probably don't want to embarrass him but I'm sure there's a younger player that needs Playing time. Is he still a hall of famer as his overall stats are good, not great. Although he won a lot of chips.

I don't understand how anyone would sign a 37 year old player coming off a two year layoff from illness,
who was already trending down before he left the game.
You have to be a really special athlete to pull that off.
I was totally befuddled by the move, but I was really hoping that it would work out for him, he was a real champ.

Ya the numbers are pretty dreadful and I can't say I'm overly surprised given his age and his missing two entire seasons. Look at Landeskog even. His numbers are not near the level they once were. And he's quite a few years younger.
The only bright spot for Toews has been his faceoff winning percentage. 62% has to be at or near the top of the league.

I don’t get why the Jets continue to play him.
Just waive him or let him sit and replace him with better younger players.

Tonight he played the least amount of minutes. He should retire mid season and do it gracefully. Just say he tried a comeback but the time away was too much to overcome. Thank the jets and move on. What's the point of him getting 4th line minutes?

A big part of his compensation is based on games played.
He gets $550,000 each time he hits the following targets - 20,30, 40,50,60 (he has played 30, so he got $1,100,00
He gets an extra $550,000 for playing 50 games and if the Jets make the playoffs.

The best decision might be stop playing him and save $2.2 million in bonuses.
Its not even really the "cheap" decision. If the Jets get to the cap line, these bonuses would be applied against the cap next year. Just cut the losses, so it has no impact on next year.
