He is a good hockey player that brought something good to every team he played for.

John LeClair - demoted to the AHL
Niewendyk - irrepairable back pain
Brett Hull - sudden lack of offensive production
many more.
Agreed. It's always tough to watch great players leave the game, though in Joe's situation you have to look at it realistically. He's had a 20 year career and is now 40. It would have probably happened that he would have retired within the next year or so either way. 3 Stanley Cups with 3 different teams. How many players can say that? Also, over 500 goals, over 1100 points and a Conn Smythe trophy. Quite a resume. He's definately headed for the Hall. I'm most certian he'll be back in the NHL in some kind of capacity soon. All the best to him in his retirement.Hockey_MLnut said:http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=187396&hubname=

automatic first ballot guarenteed. I grew up in Whitby and knew his family. Joe was a great athlete at almost anything he tried. he was a better lacrosse player than a hockey player and even a better person than an athlete. A classy, nice guy that had a hell of a career. Best of luck Joe. Wished you'd have brought the Cup back to Whitby as a Leaf but it was fun the other times!Spiker said:Hall of Famer?
He also won the Calder Trophy.the_big_E said:3 Stanley Cups, 1 Conn Smythe, Olympic Gold...I always liked Nieuwendyk. Very steady, reliable, and for the most part consistent.
