Just saw on CNN, Jim Carrey got his US citizenship. Although they didn't say why he switched. Just curious how this is perceived in Canada.

It bugs me more when our hockey players get american citizenship. Although im sure they now have dual citizenship i dont find it a big deal. He works and lives in the states, family is american. It would be different if he gave up Canadian citizenship completely.

I don't know if the rules have changed, but when I lived in the US, resident aliens payed considerable higher taxes than Citizens, actually I think my tax rate in the US was higher than the one I subsequently payed in Canada.

it has to do with taxes and any foreigner who has to deal with the Department of Homeland Security types would understand why someone would rush to get their US citizenship
