Some actors cannot accept that fame is fleeting.

At the end of the 70's Conaway was a very hot property, the sitcom Taxi had made him a star. At the same time he received critical acclaim for the Broadway play Bent ( about gay victims of the Holocaust). He fully expected to have the type of career that George Clooney (Rosanne) now enjoys. It did not happen.

His Bent co-star, Richard Gere, became the movie star, and his follow-ups to Taxi bombed. I pity the man, his 15 minutes of fame has destroyed his life.

I only remember him from "Taxi", he was awful. I figured he got the role from blowing the producer.

He wasn't a star like Travolta on "Welcome Back Kotter".

Actors react differently to adversity; Conaway fell apart, Stephen Lang persevered. Consider his history:

He gets replaced on The Terminator by Michael Biehn.

He makes a huge Broadway hit out of A Few Good Men - only to see Jack Nicholson get the role in the film.

Although venerated as a stage actor he only gets secondary roles in feature film. Now as Colonel Quarich in Avatar he gets the last laugh.
