I was watching ESPN's top 100 and even though it's not on their Web Site, Stuart Scott said "Jarome Ingila was the first 'African American' to lead the league in scoring"

HE'S CANADIAN!!!!!!

BTW he ranked 37.

Can't blame hime too much... Even in Canada I hear Canadians refer to blacks as "African-Americans" all the time.

Americans

Isn't Canada part of North America, I always think of all of us as Americans. When crossing the border I define my citizenship as US. That's where I reside. If I was from Canada, I would be Canadian. If I were a native, I would be Native American. They have neither Canadian or US citizenship and are free to cross the border as they chose. So, I guess, an African decedent lining in North America, wether in Canada or the US, is an African American.
Wouldn't it also be great if we were all Americans. I truly beleive that 99% of us would love to see one nation.

Just my opinion.

Makes sense to me. But made the mistake of suggesting that we are all kinda "Americans" to some Canadian friends here and they were pretty adament about NOT wanting to be referred to as "American". When the Guess Who came out with "American Woman", it was obvious that they didn't mean "North America". I guess because the rest of the world view people from the USA as Americans and Canadians do not want to be associated with Americans.

No disrestect intended

I appologize if I offendede anyone. I know several Canadians living on both sides of the border and have never sensed that they would be offended by being called American. I hear of Canadians taking up residency in the US every day, I can name several former and current NHL players and coaches without any thought and I personally feel right at home in your fine country and always enjoy my time spent there.

Maybe that why I'm open minded about unification of North America.

First off, I am in 100% support of the USA. Every time some country is in trouble and needs suport (whether the US has an alterior motive or not), they are there to suport them. They have been a true ally of Canada and will always be one.

Though I do not agree with the term "African American" (unless they are residing in the US), "Canadian" is the more appropriate term. Canada is the true melting pot.

Besides the political bullshit, the Leafs should offer him a contract - Fuck Calgary, a top-line player like him only comes along so often - It's worth the 5 1st rounders! (Plus the leafs have been bad at at the selection table!!!)

A white person from South Africa is not considered an African-American.

So...since the term "African-American" is used in lieu of the word "black" it can applied correctly to a black Canadian. It may well be applied to a black citizen of Germany, Italy, or any other country also. It has nothing to do with nationality and everything to do with avoiding the word "black."

well since I hear some black Canadians refer to themselves as "Africian-American", I guess they don't mind being call as such.
