Jaguar XF or Lexus GS 350

Has anyone test driven the 2009 Jaguar XF?
Would you choose it over the Lexus GS350 AWD?

I'm watching that video and I am mourning the loss of the Stone Roses more than anything.

Never the less, I love the look of the car and I think it's way more distinctive than the Lexus GS (which I believe is coming up on a redesign as the IS and ES have both been redesigned and the GS is still on the same platform.)

You won't beat the Lexus for reliability, though, I don't know how good their all wheel drive transmission is. Toyota seems to be rather perplexed when it comes to a good all wheel drive transmission (unlike Infiti, or better still Audi - who really know how to make an AWD transmission)

I voted for Lexus because of the reliability issues, but I must admit, my heart is with Jaguar. Always has been. I want to see Jag do well and survive.

I'd have to test drive both cars frankly to be able to say.

If the Jag started to go south, at least it's under warrantee, and as soon as the warrantee is up, you unload it (mind you that could cost you if the resale value isn't there)

It sounds like a head vs. heart decision. The Lexus is high quality, reliable good car.

The Jag is a really sexy car. It would be a chick magnet for sure.

THe Jag unfortunately looks very american to me. Kind of like the new Malibu. Unfortunate. THis observation comes from the rear view though.

Plus...jag's are notoriously horrible for reliability. If you want to live at your dealership get the jag.

If you want to enjoy your car, get the lexus. Plus, the Jag also looks like the GS in a way. The rear quarter panel is unmistakably Lexus.

The ISF is a hell of a machine, but, I dunno how day to day it is. The GS is a pretty big car.

Apparently Lexus owners on average are the oldest demographic going. Their cars are pretty boring looking for the most part.

The IS was introduced to appeal to a yonger buyer to try and pull that average age of owner down from 64.

The ISF starts at 56k in the USA. There is no price yet on the Canadian website, so that means Canadians will be ripped off at about 72k is my guess. We'll see. I don't think it's available in a standard either.

The Jag XF doesn't even look like a Jag anymore. That was one of the things that made the Jag stand out was it's distinctive look. It now seems to be taking a design from the Japanese market.

I don't like the way the Lexus GS looks at all. And the ES doesn't look much better. The Lexus IS 250 and 350 are nice looking sport sedans but a little too small. For big car lovers, the LS 460 and 460L are nice. Very sharp looking cars. And now the new LS 600 HL is all wheel drive and a hybrid. It's looks to be the ultimate in luxury cars. The Lexus ISF is a really sharp looking car. I saw it at the 2008 Auto show and fell in love wit it. Although it is not really a practical day to day year round car. It would make a great performance summer car for someone that can afford a second car.

However, in the end, I think I will stick with my Mercedes E550 4matic. Big, powerfull, luxury and great all year round.
