For me, people say I look young. Even in a suite and tie people think I am under 22 when in fact I am 26. On casual Fridays' I dress very casual with hoodies and stuff and people say I look like a boy in high school.

I know its good to look young since our society is so obsessed about youth, but, my young looks has become a liabilty for me at work since no one takes me seriously. What can I do to make myself look older or have people take me more seriously?

Learn how to spell and stop wearing hoodies to work on Fridays, would be a good start.

Yeah don't be going around dressed in things like a hoodie if you want to be treated like a mature adult, at work or anywhere else. You're not in Sum 41.

At 26, you are young.

Enjoy it. It will pass by all too quickly.

If appearing young at work is causing a problem, there's one very simple way to solve it: blow them away with your work. Be better, smarter, more effective.

I know what you mean.....

I was greatful when I turned 30 becuase I hoped it would lend credibility to me at work.....seeing as I deal with people much older than myself.

Problem is I'm in my mid 30's and most people think I'm still in my late 20's and yes it does cause me problems when dealing with other VP's etc.

I agree with others though....dress your age, act your age, and carry yourself as someone worthy of what you do.......just because you look young doesn't mean you should emphasize that with your wardrobe and attitude.

I understnd how you feel. When I was in my 20's I was still getting carded at bars etc. In my mid/late 20's I use to get hit on by teenagers. I hated it. Now... I'm 49 and most tell me I look 30 something. I love it. As far as work goes just do as I did ... dazzle them with high performance levels. Money talks and BS walks.

I think Diode, he should learn the meaning of casual Fridays. It used to mean no tie, now people take that to mean something you would wear to a football game or to paint the house in. I'm not trying to be insulting young one (I can't remember your name, nor do I really care), but like people have said - blow them away with your work and the way you carry yourself. Don't go to work to flirt or pick up - Rule #1. Remember - don't shit where you sleep. Rule #2 - Dress professional - act professional. That means no hoodies. If its casual Fridays, forgoe the jeans and sweat tops, instead go with the casual slacks and either a more stylish dress shirt with no tie or a golf shirt. This isn't advice from Queer eye for the straight guy or something, but advice that one of my former bosses gave to me.

Sometimes I can pass for 60 and I'm really 80. If its a really bad wrinkle day I stand upside down in the corner so my wrinkles will smooth out. Sometimes I can pass water sometimes I can't.

BTW what the Fark is a "hoodie"?
A 'hoodie' is derived from 'hooded sweatshirt', see some here.

People wear these to work??!!

Jeez I must live in a different century.
Maddog, I never understood the concept of Casual Fridays: Always thought that was weekend type dress.

Oh well, I just go downtown to the club, sit in my chair, have a nice glass of scotch, and say "hurrump"

Seriously Goober!??! You're 32?

I always thought you were like Abe Vigoda's age (actually, for a while I thought that was your picture)

Every age has a price to pay .One day we all will get old and look it, those
who look young should be thankful
