It is a jib that needs to be done and it can be done safely.

(I also thought it might be a good idea to leave a set of tools up there to avoid hauling 30lbs up and down every trip)

Problem is you need to make sure your tools are in proper working order before you ascend.
If you left a gang box on the tower weather and misuse could affect them.
Last thing you want is to need a different tool.
