No way. If it was for real... he could get some electronics re-seller (second hand dealer) to come over and pick it up and pay more then that. NO WAY.

There are several reasons why the ad may be real.
1) The guy needs cash badly, How many times have you personaly heard of people selling goods for much less than it is worth or doing work for much less than they should be paid because the need the mony badly. Two examples of this I have seen myself are:
a) A guy was willing to sell a hunting rifle for $400 when he originaly paid $1900 for it
b) I was in s strip club once and a girl ran up to me and offered a 2 for 1 deal on lap dances (offer only good for that one occasion)
2) The goods are stolen
3) He is selling the goods out from under his ex-.

I was in such a postion for example (many years ago), needed cash badly and wanted to move from Alberta back to Ontario. Had an entire 1 bdrm apt full of everything including TV, stereo, waterbed, kitchen table and chairs etc... ONE phone call to a 're-seller' took care of the whole thing. Guy came over with his truck, we made a deal... he gave me the cash... put everything in his truck and was gone lickity split.
Or whatever...
