Is There Something Wrong With My Lamp??

I recently bought a $300 dollar tri-lite table lamp for my home. I have been noticing that from time to time when turning on the switch, it emits an audible "pop". I'd hate to think that it is defective, but I've never had a lamp make that kind of noise before. I know it's not the outlet. I'd just like to make sure that the lamp is safe to use, and that the bulb isn't going to explode or cause a fire or something...:(

Any idea what could be causing this to happen??

sounds like electrical arc somewhere, possibly/ (probably) inside the lamp socket where the contacts are riveted together.

it could be,most home fires are caused by electrical. I would have the lamp checked by a reliable repair shop, or the place where you purchased it from to verify what the problem is. hopefully I'm wrong here, but good luck with it in any event!

Thanks, GB - The lamp itself is plugged into a surge protector that I use for my computer so perhaps that may prevent anything extreme from occuring. (I hope).

Return it with the receipt, you just bought it and paid 300 for it they should let you exchange it for another. Let them send it back to the manufacturer and give you a new one. If you have problems with the second one send it back tell them this is twice in a row and you want your money back and buy something else.

It's the lamp laughing at the fact that you spend $300 for a glorified lightbulb holder. :p

That's all I need... Apparently this particular lamp was very difficult to get a hold of; I ordered it last July, and it finally arrived at the store December 30th! At that rate, If I have to return it I should be getting my new one by the end of June.

For 300 bucks you should not be stuck with a faulty item. I think you should just get your money back then and find something else. Who knows you may find something else later down the line that you will like more. These big companies that make things look good and on the inside are not good at all inside hope that people will not return and they quickly put items together and could care less. They need to learn thier lessons. Send it back, why should you have to have all the worries?
