Is there any point keeping wired routers?

I'm going thru my computer boxes stuff and found 2-3 wired 4 port routers. I don't network, there were back from when the internet providers just gave you a modem and if you had a few computers you used the router. I can't think of a reason to keep them, you?

It depends on what you have but if you don't need to be wired obviously do not keep it. I have two ports plus six position switch all filled up going wired to a printer (and another wireless), two go to a NAC, plus TIVO using a MoCA connection, and use a Maze router system so don't need to log into different excess points and have a postage meter requires wired to one of the Maze remotes. Works great especially wired at about 900mb speed vs about half that on wireless connections - I have Cox Gigablast service.

I'm pretty tech-savvy, but wtf did you just say? 😂

One of the reasons I like to keep things simple and not be so connected, fuck that. lol

Yes I am a bit technical - connected 24/7 both on laptop and PC with eight 28" monitors in front of me. I go back ways, IBM card sorter, Burroughs machine, 3-foot? diameter hard drives, floppy's, OS/2 IBM operating system when Windows was only DOS, Wang and active on old newsgroups before websites with 300 baud dial-up modem. Am old guy :(

If you have a place to store it Keep it. If you're on the site you have a reason to be wired. Getting wired stuff is harder harder. Space is the premium metric of it. You can always buy it in ebay.

Used one last week hooking up 3 cctv cameras and my hot tub via the one ethernet cable that makes the 45m trip in from the back yard shed.
There are times when you do not want to tie up wifi bandwidth. Home CCTV with more than a few cameras is one of those times.

Now wifi in the house is so much snappier.

PS: Dave In Phoenix- drop me a note if you are making a trip to Toronto this summer.

Wired connection is still king. I use a wired router network for my PCs, and wireless for my phone and other home devices. Wired cables make connections more visible.

I also started to carry a wired mouse for travel. Compared to a wireless mouse, it's two fewer things to pack (a receiver dongle and a battery). Yes, I also like to keep things simple.

I always keep one computer wired so that when I lose internet connection on all my wireless devices I can quickly know whether my internet is actually down or it's just the Wi-Fi.

And for slightly faster download speeds not capable via Wi-Fi.
