Is there a mechanic in the house?

I took my car in a week ago because when I stop at a red lite or a stop sign and the a/c is on, it doesn't blow cold air and the RPM's rev over and over again. And when I'm going normal speeds, it feels like the engine is chugging.

They said they needed to evact the system, check for leaks and refill it. Well, its still happening. When I called and complained that this was happening again, they told me that this is NORMAL. It's when the a/c is switching on and off that it makes the RPM's rev. But it shouldn't be doing it over and over and shouldn't be blowing warm air... right?

Am I getting royally screwed here? Can it be fixed? Should I demand my money back?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Not to be rude, but a year and model might help.

If you are still getting warm air, whether at idle or not, something else is wrong, and they probably screwed you, waiting for you to return to more expensive repairs. Older AC systems should give cool air even at idle, and max cold when at normal speed. I would think something is wrong with the condenser, or the pump clutch is slipping, to give warm air at a stop.

As far as engine chugging, that could be a bad sensor, getting faulty reading from O2 or MAS, and electrical load of the AC clutch is effecting the engine at idle and driving speed. I had a buddy with an Aerostar 4L, and it wouldn't run smoothly in town, yet idled and ran at slow speed in town with the AC off. Got it fixed, and his Ranger 4L did the same thing, and same repair worked. Both had problems with wiring, and AC clutch was acting up, causing idle to bounce, therefore making O2 or MAS get the faulty reading and over compensating on fuel/air mixture.

This may not be your exact problem, but I hope this gives you some insight.

Thanks very much ... and sorry for omitting the make year and model ... it's a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire.
At that age, you shouldn't really have any problems yet. But my nephew had problems with his Cavi Z24 AC too. No driving or idling problems, just warm to moderately cool AC.

Marbles take it to a GM dealer. there is an updated part (wiring connector) that will fix the problem.
