How do stage hypnotists do it?

They got one at the Ex called The incredible Boris and it is amazing if real

He gets 30 volunteers on stages then gradually eliminates those he feels are not going under

He plays some Pink Floyd for atmosphere then tells them to fall asleep and they do

Within 20 minutes they are zombies

With ten volunteers left he gets them to pretend they are going over the falls, forget their name etc then he brings them back to reality with a preset phrase and they cannot remember WTF they did.

It seems fake to me but here he does it to the crew of Breakfast Television so if it is fake they are in on it

I've seen a few of these over the years, I saw the incredible Boris' performance too on the weekend. I'm pretty sure hypnotism is real, there are a few guys who do it, Mike Mandell and Dave Curran are two of them in Toronto. I bought his self hypnosis CD after the show and I fall asleep within minutes after listening to it, I wonder if it's working (the CD has 2 tracks, one for relaxation and one for self improvement).

I've been too many of these shows to count and yes, they're real. Some people can be hypnotized very quickly, takes longer with others and some can't which is why they always start with a large group of people then weed out the non-hypnotized ones. There's no way these guys could be doing these shows for so many years using actors. If you participate in one of these shows and keep telling yourself, I'm not going to be hypnotized, chances are you won't.

There's lots of these shows on YouTube. Some pretty funny x-rated ones too.

Although I've been many shows, I've never wanted to participate. I don't need anyone to make me make a fool of myself. I can do that all on my own. :D

The participants are willingly letting themselves put into a suggestible state of mind.

If your mind won't let the hypnotist take the lead, then you will not get hypnotized.

Some would argue that when you are deeply immersed into a movie, it is a form of hypnosis in which you are letting the film take control. Stage hypnotism is similar.

I have known a few people who have claimed no recollection of things they said and did while under hypnosis.

I have known many people who acted out the suggstions while on stage, but privately admitted that they were not hypnotized.

None were paid. (Are you freaking kidding me? What sort of budget do you think these guys have to work with?)

The Amazing Kreskin has stated that stage hypnotists have been known to make use of stooges who travel from show to show. A stage hypnotist may only require a single stooge because by using him first for each demonstration real subjects from the audience will tend to follow his lead and imitate his responses. Moreover, for the climax of the show, the hypnotist will often focus on one or two subjects to demonstrate more difficult and dramatic responses involving apparent hallucinatory experiences. A single stooge can be used for this purpose.

It must be real because psychologists use hypno-therapy. Whether those stage acts are all real, I don't know. Some people can be hypnotized easier than others (if at all).

i was tempted to get on stage to see if it worked

i have gone to "Positive Changes" which is a franchise of hypnosis clinics

They get you to relax then make suggestions while playing simple repetitive space music. The repetition in supposed to encourage the hypnosis

They make a tape you can play at home

At no time are you " under" like in the stage show and it is the process of repetition that supposedly works
They claim to help you stop smoking, lose weight
but it can take months to see rather iffy results

Now if this stage guy is real then why do they not just get you under then tell you that you hate cigarettes?

I have been on stage for one of these hypnotist in Atlanta. I am still skeptical, but I am a bit of a believer as well.
The hypnotist does weed out the people who are not willing or too skeptical or some other criteria.

I was extremely skeptical when I went up on stage, but after about 10 mins the guy had me jumping around, clucking like a chicken etc.
This was in front of the executive managers of the company that had just hired me. At one point I was bent over this big girls knees, she was
hitting my ass with a paddle, and I was yelling something like "hit me a again mamma".

At no point did I feel like I was hypnotized or that someone was forcing me to do this. It was just felt natural that I was doing this on stage infront of
a few hundred people.

In truth it was an incredibly cool experience.

How can you still be skeptical and only a bit of a believer after your personal account here? You're not pulling our legs are you?

hypnotism only works on the weak minded.
According to Myths of Hypnosis (link follows):

Myth # 1

Only Weak-Minded People Can Be Hypnotized

Many people believe only those who are weak-minded and gullible can be hypnotized. However, studies have proven that this is not true. The more intelligent, the more creative, and the more imaginative a person is, the easier it is for them to be hypnotized.

I think they are suggesting you can't hypnotize a turnip a similarly intellectually challenged subject.

I watched a show where a friend who is a successful entrepreneur / CEO (and a skeptic) was put under.

It's fake. I was asked to be a shill for one guy on a cruise. I know the people in "deep hypnosis" were crew that worked out of sight. It's fake.

Absolutely real. I've been to two shows with hypnotists with friends. Both volunteered and were hypnotized. The hypnotist had them do a broad variety of really funny activities. They did not recall their actions but felt really relaxed afterward.

Every time I hear from people that say hypnosis is real they always give example of someone else, ie. friends or someone on stage. It's never them saying I was hypnotized. Why is that?

I know several of these self proclaimed hypnotists tried to do it to me and nothing works, actually they looked like fools after to everyone. Until I personally get hypnotized and make the claim that I was really under the spell this is all bunk to me.

I agree with your skepticism and I too wanted to declare fraud when I saw it

If it was real what about the liability FFS ????
Boris claims it is all fun and safe but WTF if it is real how does he know it is all fun and safe ?????
How can their possibly not be a fallout somewhere when you are so manipulative of the human mind. If it was real it should be illegal.
The Ex is making themselves liable to a huge lawsuit if it is real

The Incredible Boris is no expert. He is either a layman who has learned a parlor trick or he is a fraud .

The show at the Ex could easily be done with one or two shills taking the lead and others following because

1 they want to be hypnotized even though they are not

2 audience approval

3 group pressure

4 belief in an authority figure

and i am sure some stage shows are fake but are they all?

I would be willing to say they are all fake except for the following evidence

In this video staff of Breakfast Television are hypnotized. I find it hard to believe they would lie about this on national TV

I have also seen it done in a documentary but I cannot get past the liability issue if it is real
