Is Rob Ford really in second place?

I'm no fan of NOW Magazine's political views, but this article about the Toronto Star poll that put Rob Ford in second place in the Toronto mayoral race makes a valid point:

http://www.nowtoronto.com/news/story.cfm?content=174642

Looking at the number of respondents, and the fact it was an online survey, I think the results are highly suspect.

That's not to say Ford isn't doing well. He may or may not be. But I don't know that this poll should be trusted.

Ignore them.

All polls are bullshit, it's too bad they've replaced real reporting. People are swayed by them for some moronic reason, they often want to vote for the winner.

ford has a large base of supporters, largley in etobicoke, but his message of if you don't have it dont spend it resonates with a lot of people. I personally thought he was nuts jumping into this but now we see. He is the left wings worst nightmare, the comments from the left wing councilors is telling, ie., he's a buffoon, and worse.

Almost a protest candidate. The Miller Lites will have tough time as I think people are finally just fed up. Polls have a long time to go up and down before the election though.

I don't think that's the biggest problem, so much as their star candidate that they had been grooming for the role self-destructed in a sex scandal and all they have to run in his stead are a bunch of unknowns. The only viable "left" candidates in the race are considerably to the right of Miller.

Miller resigned because he was smart enough to know there would be this exact backlash. The kid never had a chance either, he really was Miller Lite. Ford comes across as not that bright but at least he reads the peoples' mood correctly at the moment.

Up until the moment his personal life imploded his political career he looked to me like he had a viable shot at capturing the left and a fair chunk of the middle. Of course this is all counter-factual, we'll never really know, and it's kind of pointless to debate it. In the world we live in the "left" candidates that are actually in the running are really pretty centrist and only look left wing when stacked up against Ford.

Too early to tell anything.

However the NOW (and its fans) has a bad case of your typical out of touch liberal. They can't understand the logic of people outside their own urban liberal circle. I remember reading a similar article way back on how Canada would never allow someone like Harper as PM.

The only poll that counts is the poll on election night.

My guess is Ford won't come in 1st or 2nd.
