The canadian stock market is tanking. Is now a good time to buy energy and gold? I would either buy it using xeg or xgd. Or if I really felt risky I would double leverage through Horizon Beta Pro etfs:confused: . The relevent symbols would be heu and hgu.

Isn't the theory to buy low and sell high-lol. I am seriously thinking of doing this. Any comments? p.s. XGD is trading at its 52 week low and XEG is fast approaching its 52 week low.

I bought I've done 3 buys through HBP, and so far I am down about 53% so it is a BITCH!! I may buy one more time. I'm not sure if it is too early. Just to think I could had 40 SP's for an hour with the 10K I have lost so far....:>(

NB, my timing on the HBP has been bad as well:( . I sold the hed way too early a couple of months ago. Now the hed is up almost 40% after I sold it.

IMHO, the HBP etfs are almost as addictive as sps---lol.

Now that is a question

Hi,

Very tough question, that one is. Now is not the time but very soon will it be. Buy not on margin or credit should you.

Right now there is flat out manipulation in the paper markets.

The US government buying of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will guarantee very long term inflation. Massive inflation is coming. So for the long term at least three to five years I believe that buying gold is the right investement. But, if you are buying to trade I don't know: Gold could bottom out at 650 or 730 or $780, take your pick.

If it really does bottom basically today at 780.00 or if the HUI stays above support, that is screamingly bullish actually. But I totally refuse to gamble very hard earned money on that position. I would also reject borrowing money to invest or speculate in gold.

Cheers

This is exactly the reason why individual investors should be dollar cost averaging (buying small amounts once a month) or not in the market at all

I agree with you:) . The problem is that these hbp etfs are so tempting. Today, for example the hgd was up 18% and the hed was up almost 14%. The problem is that these particular etfs are a total zero sum game. For every winner there is a loser.

Er... I'd be the loser. Gold will likely take another *hitkicking tomorrow. It is down $20 in Europe and margin calls will be rolling through the markets.... KABOOM!!! I think TSX will easily hit 11,800 or lower. in the next few days.

if you plan to invest for the long term (i.e., five years and beyond) anytime is actually a good time.
