I have a receiver called STR-DE197. It's instruction booklet calls it an FM Stereo FM/AM Receiver. Is it compatible with these speakers [Precision Acoustics 5.1 Home Theatre Speaker System (Cinema HD2)]:

No. You cannot get 5.1 from a stereo system that only has left and right audio. In order to get 5.1 from this receiver you need to purchase a DSP to put inline through an AMP to give you the acoustics you need. I would get a real 5.1 reciever to to this and get the benefits of better inputs for all the gear including digital input/output.
