I read a while back that these viruses can disappear as fast as they appear. India and USA are seeing significant drops in cases without massive vaccinations.

What's behind it, is it mask 😷 wearing and social distancing? Vaccinations? Can these viruses run 🏃‍♀️ their course? There doesn't seem to be many lockdowns in the usa?

Many experts say: 1. The "surge" from the holiday gatherings is subsiding; 2. No more mixed messages from US gov't on preventative measures; 3. More and more people getting vaccinated by the day. And true virus mutations usually go toward less virulent, although the UK and South African mutants slightly go in the other direction.

In India the scientists are perplexed and can't explain it. On a side note I had no idea there are so few people over the age of 65 in india, only 6%.

Percentage of muricans with both shots is 4.2%, most states seem to be almost back to business as usual?

The biggest fear seems to be a 3rd surge containing the variants, especially the South African one which seems to be able to drastically bring down the vaccines' efficacy.

I don't see this ending anytime soon especially with the introduction to all these new variants. The masks def. help and the constant washing of hands as the basic flu like symptoms decreased substantially this year.

There is some encouraging signs...new cases down, vaccinations up...It's almost been a year, I sometimes wonder if we handled it right.

Many people have simply adapted and contracting it, getting over it and moving on without a fuss.

It’s not ending; we’re eventually just going to have to learn to live with it. Mutations will continue to occur too. This is a classic example of winning battles but losing the war.

India is definitely a case to study. From my experience visiting that country many times, I can tell you that Indian people get exposed to pollution, dirt and microbes on a daily basis so it wouldn’t be fair to assume that that has nothing to do with building their immunity against a lot of things. The body learns to adapt the more it is exposed. And then there’s turmeric which is part of virtually every Indian dish that has proven health benefits. Also, the higher density of a very young population with better immune systems, cultural practices (most number of vegetarians in the world in India) - lots of factors at work here. Now, not saying all of that is fighting Covid but it’s definitely a possibility and seems to be working pretty well for them.

Media spin is whats behind it

It was never a big deal in first place

Now the narrative wants to say what a great job the politicians are doing

Considering there were something like 23 million cases reported in the last 24h, I don't think we're at the point of discussing it's disappearance.

As for Canada, our numbers are down because the governments have significantly cut down on the number of people contacts needed to transmit an infection.

Likely the most important factor.

Don't know about India but a number of countries in Africa have done well with covid partly because the medical community and the people have learned from past diseases like Ebola.

More like 250,000, not too far off. Back under your covers.

I know numbers are getting encouraging, but last night Joe Biden said he hoped we would be close to normal by Christmas...like fucking Christmas...we're gonna have to live like this for most of the year...I need better news than that!!

It looks like it behaves like flu...comes every season and sort of dies during summer warm months...with vaccine on the way...this will become flu of 2020

It IS the flu
This has been proven many times over

The year we had covid we had no flu deaths for first time in our history
The symptoms for covid are identical to flu symptoms
