So is Canada the new destination for Afghan asylum seekers? Today it was the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls for the three Afghani officers who went over the hill from Joint Base Ottis on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Last week two Afghani Police Officers who were in training at Quantico, Virginia were picked up in Buffalo, New York.

Not an expert in Canadian immigration law, but I think they will have trouble with the "safe third country" hurdle if they attempt to enter Canada after being legally within the USA.

Seemingly the Afghans aren't aware of this.

The story isn't clear, but it would appear that CBSA denied them entry and turned them back over to USCBP.

Also interesting is that the Niagara Frontier appears to be an attraction like a bright light to moths, even though in the Cape Cod case it is over 150 miles further than the Lacolle, Qc. crossing (for the Quantico folks it was in fact the closest crossing).

An Afghan refugee claimant was recently murdered in the pizza shop in Toronto where he was working. So sad.

On a related note, many Afghan interpreters who worked with the Canadian forces in Afghanistan have immigrated to Canada.
