Is “The Onion” funny?

I’ve been following The Onion on Twitter for awhile. Either it’s not funny or I’m just not getting it. Looks like a case of trying desperately to be edgy/funny but accomplishing neither.

Used to be a long time ago. Their Sep. 11/ 01 reaction was epic. Stopped following them when they went behind the pay wall. Just like the Naked News. I'm not going to pay to see a naked girl- I'm no longer 14.

There was a time, 2008 - 2011 perhaps, when they were cutting or at least leading edge - they were still in print in those days. Truly off-center perspective and irreverent humor that you wasn't available just anywhere. Now it is.

Similar in some respects to the life cycle of SNL, a true original its time.

I don't visit the site, but every once in a while I'd somehow click a link that goes to an Onion story.

Never found it funny.

The Onion, professional writers, actors, comedians etc....... All trained and paid to get a laugh from people......

...... still waiting for any of them to be funnier than everyday friends and family just cracking jokes on the fly, or acting funny in a natural way which isn't scripted and rehearsed.

The Onion has always made me smile.

I’d say the last year has been pretty weak, like most satirical efforts...

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I met someone over the break who told me their favourite tv comedies were Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. I cannot understand how those could be remotely entertaining to a relatively intelligent adult, but the world would be a boring place if we all liked the same stuff.

Surely you jest. We have not had such a great climate for humor since at least the time Bubba got himself a blowjob in the Oval Office. I was watching our Prime Minister answer questions regarding his vacations a while back- I laughed for two days, every time I remembered that deer in the headlights look on his face. Or watching Nancy Pelosi defend some women abuser. The vacancy behind those eyes and the effort exerted that registered so painfully on the face of a princess that was used to being worshipped- honestly- I almost pissed myself laughing.
