Okay folks, I know that there has to at least ONE other Maiden fan around here, so I'll post my review:

I arrived at the concert tonight at 8:25pm, about 5 minutes before Maiden went on, so I missed the opener. I'll put this in point form since I'm feeling lazy now:

Attendance - well, I don't know the sheer numbers, but the general floor admission was about %50 full, and the seating everywhere else was about %85-90 full. It was a good turn out, and the vibe/atmosphere from everybody was much better than when I saw Maiden at the ACC back in Oct 2006 (AMOLAD tour). There was a good mix of young and old in the crowd, and everyone seemed to gel well. Nobody threw a drink at the band this time in Toronto. In 2006, somebody chucked a beer at Adrian two songs in and nearly hit him...Bruce didn't notice, so he didn't say anything back then.

My seat - I was up in the top level (section 321) in the top row (18), but because I was about mid-way down the length of the arena (stage right), the view was still very clear, and I could see everything without a problem. It worked out well since I prefer a birds-eye view. The other bonus was I got mildly high because of all of the pot-smoke rising up, and it didn't cost me a penny.

Performance - each individual in the band performed as per their usual individual reputation (e.g. Jan = sloppy and butchered H's solos, Dave = creamy, Bruce = nutbar, etc..). The guitar tones were good for modern Marshall amps, and the overall sound mix was good. Bruce wasn't drowned out by everyone elses volume. Oh, and the show was fucking loud! I expect my ears to be ringing for the next two days. Not bad for a band of 50 year-olds.

Stage - The basic physical stage set-up is still the same after all of these years, but obviously with the paintings/props and details coming from the Powerslave art direction. As you probally know be now, the walk-on Eddie during the Iron Maiden, was the SIT Eddie, but a brand new one. It looks noticibly different from the one on the SIT tour back in 86/87. They used much more pyro on this tour than on recent tours, and they used it to good effect.

Man of the match award - Adrian upped his game to his old 80's level (his peak IMHO)..he was absolutely on fire and really going for it. He tapped out more notes on his guitar during his solos, than Peter North taps cheerleaders. It was also good to see that he dropped his Fenders for this tour and brought out his Jacksons. One of them was the old SIT/SSOASS white Jackson with the black pickguard. The other one was pure white, and had a single coil pickup in the neck position; he never had this one during the eighties, so it must be fairly new. He brought out the old Gibson SG for a few tunes, but alas, his old Lados still seemed to be locked away in the pyramid. I was going to take my own Lado Earth (yes, I have one) and offer to lend it to him, but I passed.:p

Setlist - If you don't know it at this point, turn off your computer right now!!! However, I will say that I saved my bathroom break for went they played Fear Of The Dark.

Merchandise - overpriced as usual but a good variety. I'm not really a T-shirt guy, and I wasn't about to pay $20 for an Iron Maiden coffee mug. I ended up buying the little tour book/poster that folds out for $15 since I wanted a memento (besides my ticket stub) from the show.

Hookers outside- everybodys got their vice! Just kidding.....maybe.

Cheers

Front and Center on the Floor

I was at this show as well. Spent the entire show at the front of the floor. It was the 4th time I've seen Maiden in the past 4 or 5 years and as a younger fan(as in I didn't get to see them tour in the 80's) I'm glad they still have the energy to put on a real rock show. Unlike some other bands that have not aged as well or just don't put the energy into their shows anymore. BTW that was a very detailed and great review.

I have to Agree this concert was amazing. First time seeing Maiden live and they didnt disappoint.

T-shirt prices were crazy 35 to 40 bucks for a T-shirt. But they know the people that want one will buy it no matter the price.

Great Concert.

Best concert in years. It's amazing to hear a true performer sing, rather than all the pre-recorded crap we hear at concerts these days.

One of the best song lists EVER!!! More than made up for last time when they were in town and played all the songs off the new album.

The place was packed! The floor is never entirely full; it can't be due to fire regulations. But when everyone packs to one end, the other end looks empty. There were more fans there than at a Leafs playoff game, LOL!

Took some amazing pictures on my cell.

Concert shirts are normally $25-40. Dunno why everyone's complaining. It's not 1984 anymore. ;)

Besides, Maiden puts out some cool swag. I got an IM scarf that I'll be wearing to work today to keep warm. And the t-shirt with Eddie in a Team Canada hockey Jersey? Instant classic! How many bands customize their swag to the town they're playing in? Not many. Not many at all.

Overall I give this concert two big fucking thumbs up.

UP THE IRONS!!!

I thought the show was good I've seen them the last 3 times that they came to T.O.

This was the best show in terms of song list it started with their big hits and it just kept going by the middle of the concert I could have gone home happy because they played all the big hits that they had vids for which are the songs that I knew as a teen.

How did this compare to the other shows?

A lot more banter from Bruce this time around.

The last ACC show plugging their last album had a better stage show.... more moving parts and puppets and what not.

But the timed firewords during one of the songs on Sunday was really cool.

The show at the Amphitheatre was for the old school fan because they focused on the first 4 albums and it hand the simplest stage set up. Also that was an outdoor summer concert so a different feel.

Interesting to see straightlaced looking guys to extras from Fubar to young teens in traditional and neometal attire all in the same place.

I had fun.

I didn't see the scarf!!! That would've been cool.
It is. It's royal blue with yellow lettering. It says Iron Maiden in big letters and then the tour name in smaller letters below.

I wore it to work yesterday and I was genuinely surprised at how good the quality is. It actually kept me warm! I was prepared for it to be a cheap, low-quality rag that was more an ornamental souvenir than anything else, but I was wrong.
