I found it ridiculous to hear the Irish Deputy Minister of Justice calling for the Swedish referee to be extradited to Ireland to stand trial for fraud. Utter nonsense. It's a game. Ref made a mistake. It happens. Get over it. Soccer is a stupid sport anyway unless your a 13 year old girl.

Soccer or "futbol" is to many countries what Hockey is to Canada or what Baseball is to the US MANY soccer fans are very emotional passionate about the game. But again Refs do make mistakes in ALL sports Look at the recent World Series, how many blown callls??????

Probably too emotional and passionate to the point of committing suicide and/or murder.

They won't replay the game. One reason could be because much money was betting on a French victory. Another reason is that FIFA wants France with its 67 million population in the World Cup and not Ireland with its 4.4 million population. Numbers matter.

At least Henry admitted it and I believe he has said he would be in favour of a rematch.
Thierry Henry’s admissions were sadly made after the fact and purely to save his image.

If he admitted he’d handled the ball immediately, the goal could have been ruled out. The admission was made when he was under fire from the media, after the game, when it was too late to change the result.

He has subsequently called for a rematch, again only when he knew it couldn’t happen as FIFA ruled it out the option.

Sadly for Henry, despite all he has and will achieve in football career, this incident will always tarnish his image.

Meanwhile FIFA constantly bang on about fair play, respect and integrity. Whilst they cannot change the result, they have to act as clearly France as brought the game into disrepute.

All good points, except for your conclusion that France has brought the game into disrepute. IMHO, FIFA has done a good job trying to police the guys who take intentional dives. However, there are still to many guys who fall down when a hard breeze blows.

Henry's act is just one in another line of black marks on soccer. Its a great sport, but its way too easy and tempting for guys to flop all over the field, especially close to the net.

This case was really too bad because the refs completely missed the call. But that is the nature of sports.

No, he should have admitted it immediately, then the goal wouldn't have counted - that would have been REAL sportsmanship!

FIFA needs France in the World Cup to add to the 'tension' from last time (France, Italy and Zidane's head butt issue etc!)

Similar screw-up but because it's Georgia, no one gives a shit. But poor little Ireland gets a bad call and everyone goes ape shit.
And no, Robbie Keane didn't admit it, and Ireland did not call for a replay.

as a former pro soccer player in Greece i honestly dont c what the fuss is all about guys...soccer is played with alot of cheaters, only difference is he got caught on video doing it...big deal...every player who gets tackled and falls as if he just got shot cheat all the time.....maradona cheated....players cheat on every corner kick with all the shirt pulling....free kicks are 10yds away but always the wall creeps up a few yards again cheating......what about throw ins? never a time a player does not walk up 10 extra yards before he throws the ball, again cheating.....its all part of the game....

the ref missed the call, plain as that......

I can't agree with you more on the 1st point you make. And I'm of Irish heritage. I can't disagree with you more on the last point you make. Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world and in Canada, believe it or not. You clearly never played the game so you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I'm not a fan of Roy Keane but he's bang on here. He calls out the Irish Football Association for pointing fingers at everyone but the players themselves. I've seen alot of Irish football and one thing I do know is they can't protect a lead.
