Orioles tv commentator , Brian Roberts, questioned the IQ of Canadian baseball fans when they " booed" after Oriole pitcher threw to first base to keep Jays runner in check. He's gotten a lot of flack for it,

He's actually right, with the new rules: Pitch clock, 3 disengagement allowed per batter and the bigger bases makes it easier for runner to steal a base. the crowd should be cheering. Also by throwing to first base , pitcher is not focused on batter and more likely to give up hit or a walk.

The average IQ of a Canadian baseball fan is no different from a US fan. He was offside there. But yes he is correct. Its more of a tradition than anything to boo when a pitcher tries to pick off a runner at 1st. If the commentator is worried about that they don't have much to talk about I guess. And given the O's dismal season I can see why.

The thing he missed is that they boo pick-offs in supposed baseball hotbeds like Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Dodgers Stadium or Wrigley Field.

The ignorance about Canadian baseball is alway staggering. I'm old enough to remember back in 92 for the first World Series game played in Canada, the national broadcaster (which I believe was CBS) did a intro showing Toronto. But, they showed kids playing baseball with bat, glove and fucking hockey puck....Ignoring the fact that baseball has been played up here since it was in the US...or that Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson played many games in Canada....

The Orioles had so much hype and promise surrounding them this year then....Trap door opens and bye bye.

I think Roberts was just showing his frustration.

Anyways the Jays are having a great season and I look forward to my Yankees getting the opportunity to meet them in the post season.

You know there was one particular member on here who was pushing for them to be sellers at the trade deadline as they had no hope of reaching the post season and needed to forget this season and build for the future...Others were agreeing with him...Man those sentiments didn't age well.

One last thing...Good for the T.O. fans for sticking with their team over the last few years..They've proven to be very faithful.
