Recently a thread was started on iphone clones. I can't seem to find it even after using the search.
A friend of mine is going to the middle east and can't take her iphone without buying half the company.
Do these clones take chips from that part of the world and can they phone, text and surf on a simple calling card from there or do they need to buy a plan?
Tried google but its a bit of a maze and time is running out for her.
All help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know myself, but my neighbour bought a clone from Hong Kong and put his
rogers phone chip in it.

Where are you/she located now?

There's a place on Yonge at Gerrard that sells them. You can go and check it out.

The thread wasn't started on the clones, I mentioned it in a thread in the buy and sell section where someone wanted to buy a cheap iphone.

You can also check them out at

http://www.cellengros.com/

There's a little video on the phone itself.

I am curious as to what you mean by "she can't take her phone without buying half the company". Depending on how long she's going there she should look into getting a plan there. If she uses the sim card from her carrier here, no matter what, she's going to get hit with roaming charges.

I'm not up on what you can or can't do with an iphone but you should be able to download all your contacts to the sim card, put the card into the new phone, and upload it. Or you should be able to sync the contacts to the pc and then download it.

No matter what you do if you're texting to someone here, from there, I bet it'll cost you whether you have a North American plan or a Middle Eastern Plan.

As to using a Middle Eastern Card: if you're putting a new sim card into a phone, what's the difference between using her original IPHONE and a clone? None. When you remove the sim card: the phone is basically blank (but you would have to unlock it).

cellengros... is that the company that has a review video on youtube where they try to sell their product... an Iphone clone... and it crashes in the demo?

you are taking a huge risk with unknown clones... better to go with a reputable clone instead.

The iphone clones that I've seen are just phones. They look like an iphone but they don't do all the other cool stuff that iphones are really good at.

You get what you pay for.

Make sure that it is quad band if it is going to the ME.

When you get there, then buy a SIMM card and throw it in and it should work.

I don't know which ones you have seen but the ones I have run all IPhone apps. They function in the same manner as an Iphone (touch screen and all that) but just not as well. But what do you expect for 1/8th the cost?

There are a number of iphones at cellengros. The early versions did crash but there is one on the last page that the guy in the video says it is just as good and feels the same as an Iphone. Third gen I think? He even says in the video the earlier ones were crap but this one is much much better. If I come across it I'll post it here......
