iPhone 3.0 upgrade

DrRogers has left the Bld
Has anyone installed the leaked upgrade on their iphone? Howard Forums for the most part says it works fine and is the release that is coming from Apple on the 17th. I am wondering if anyone using rogers has installed it already and what the results were

I cannot wait for this upgrade. Been googling myself but not much has been posted on it. But I guess it's only a week away so we'll all get to find out first hand.

Lots written about it - check out Howard Forums for Apple there are several threads on the upgrade.

Good luck

My brother has the new OS (Gold standard or edition....the same one given to developers at the WWDC), is on Rogers, and hasn't reported any issues to me on it.

I have the Touch, and also can't wait for the new OS!

I'm a fairly new iPhone user and I love the interface and finally getting used to the typing. Too bad I didn't wait a few more months coulda gotten the 3GS. Anyway, the apps are awesome (online gaming!) and browsing just kills compared to blackberry. Plus, with 3.0 tethering is supposed to be available so gonna make use of that 6GB! Cannot wait.

Upgrade went flawlessly....

In fact, tail of two upgrades:

Mac:
Click on upgrade button, file downloads (2-3 minutes), iTunes is now updated
Plug in iPhone, prompted if I want to update to 3.0, click a button, 3-4 minutes later phone works flawlessly with 3.0 features.

Windows:
Click on upgrade button, file downloads (20 min -same network as above), have to close all applications and restart Windows (5 min). Shortcut to iTunes no longer works.......

M$, what a POS

It sucks that is exclusively on AT&T and Rogers only and that you have to jailbreak it in order to use it on another carrier. LAME!

Make it available on all the major carriers already!

Just upgraded. Kept getting Server Unavailable Message but it finally went through after a couple of tries.

Anyway, I don't really care for most of the features actually. The ones that I am dying to use are tethering and push notification (from apps like BeeJive). Unfortunately, BeeJive has not released their update for 3.0 yet. Will try tethering tomorrow as soon as I get my netbook back.

But, I have noticed that web browsing is slightly faster and the screen redraws a little better on pages. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just dreaming.

Upgraded on Wednesday - waited for official release - It was a no brainer - phone rebooted and everything, including all aps work..
The cut and paste is brilliant -compared with what was suggested previously. The search function rocks, and the wide keyboard was really needed. All in all I have unlocked my BBerry 8900 and use it for my US carrier instead of the old phone I had. The only thing that is missing is the video camera but I have a FLIP so I think I can live without it. There are several other small changes that are great and the battery life is better from what I can see so far. Has anyone been able to play the ipod function through the bluetooth in your car - I haven't been able to set it up. All in all, no 3Gs for me, not necessary..

Mee neither. I was a fool for picking up an iPhone (first time owner) recently without doing any prior research so I didn't know about the pending 3GS. I was obviously mad at myself when they announced the 3GS just a few months after I got the 3G. But luckily for me, it's really only faster since the most significant features are part of the OS 3.0 upgrade. I'd be real pissed if they made push notification and tethering 3GS only.

Given the modest upgrade this time, I imagine that Apple is probably preparing a killer 4th gen iPhone in next year or so. Cool thing is, iPhone is no longer just a smartphone, it's a platform. And a platform with a large and growing user base that you can always count on constant new releases of cool apps from developers.

Once you upgrade you iPhone 3G to the new OS, AND YOU HAVE A DATA PLAN, you can use tethering on the 3G.

Yup that is true. I just tethered today on my netbook with my 3G. Beautiful. Got the $30/6GB plan so not quite no-holds barred but for what I use it for, basically unlimited. Awesome!

Now that Robber's has allowed for tethering on an iPhone, and you've got the $30 a month plan for 6Gb, I'm thinking of canceling my Roger's Intenet and using my phone instead. After all I'm paying for 6Gb a month and I don't use anywhere that amount on my home PC and iPhone combined. I think they just saved me a tone of cash....

Robber's is one step ahead of you... tether all you want until December 31, 2009

"Rogers will continue to enable tethering on devices that allow it, but data plans will be adjusted to better reflect the way customers are using tethering services."

I suspect if too many people tether and suck up 5.99GB per month then they'll probably add a fee to do it. Or if too many people cancel their home internet then they'll have to make up for it as well. If it's like an extra $5 then no problem, but knowing them it'll be something stupid like $20 on top of your normal monthly fees to tether.

Don't cancel your home internet just yet!
