Thanks for sharing. I was in diapers at the time of this interview so I wouldn't have any true sense of the zeitgeist during this situation but this clip is eerily prophetic of what has just happened with the protests.....
PET - "The main thing the FLQ is trying gain from this is a hell of a lot of publicity."
Replace FLQ with Tamara Lich & Co.
PET - "You don't think they're bandits?"
Replace bandits for terrorists and it's the primary response of most Canadians when hearing antivaxxers defend the protesters who hijacked borders and harrassed Ottawa residents.
Reporter - "I explained it badly."
What most protest supporters should say for almost every argument they make, except they would never admit it.
Reporter - "My choice is to live in a society that is free and democratic which to me means you don't have people running around with guns. And one of the things I have to give up for that choice is that people like you may be kidnapped."
Trudeau would have been right to deck the reporter for that last part but here is that same quote for today......
Antivaxxers - "My choice is to live in a society that is free of responsibility which to me means you have people running around spreading covid as they wish with no one protected. And one of the things I have to give up for that choice is that people may die."
PET - "I think it's more important to get rid of those committing violence against the total society and those who are trying to run the government through a parralel power by establishing their authority by kidnapping and blackmail."
Replace kidnapping with "economic terrorism" and it's the protests.
PET - "It's more important to keep law and order in society than to worry about weak kneed people."
Could be said today of the protesters and supporters who believe in breaking the law because they refuse to get a jab or wear a mask.
I couldn't make out what Trudeau said to the reporter at the end when the reporter said "No I'm not". Any one know?
