A friend needs a lawyer with experience in the internet world...someone has posted her contact information on a website which she does not wish it to be on. The owner of the website refuses to remove this contact information & her name. Is there anything she can do?

Good luck. I’m still incredibly irritated that one has to pay Bell a monthly fee in order to not have their address and number published in their telephone directory. Pure extortion!

Do it yourself

The hosting co for the site should be able to take care of that:

Type in the website url at sites such:

www.samspade.org

(first field then click on "DO STUFF")

This will among other things provide you with the email address for the hosting co. ( and IP for the offending website ) under these fields:

NS1-Hostname: ns1.Hostingco.com
NS1-Netaddress: 209.171.58.42
NS2-Hostname: ns2.Hostingco.com
NS2-Netaddress: 209.151.58.42

Go to the hosting co 's website & review their TOS: ( Terms of Use )
Then send an email to their abuse dept.

Ok maybe you could help me what is being offended

Here is the deal

the girls working name is posted... example :

Samantha

Her partial phone # is posted:

416-244-XXXX <(looks like that)

and this is posted in the city she is working in say windsor for example

So in Windsor there would only be 1 samantha with a 416-244-XXXX #

She would like for her name/phone # to be removed but the webmaster refuses.

Ok so here is the TOS for Candidhosting

http://www.candidhosting.com/CGI/Aup.asp

thanks for the help

Not entirely true, You have to pay to have your number unlisted but you can request, for no fee, that your address not be published in the phone directory.

Or have your number listed under a fictious name.
A friend of mine has her phone listed under Magnolia Blossom. Whenever someone calls for Ms. Blossom, she knows its telemarketers using a list.
BTW, she ain't in the GTA.

Yes, that can be done. Bell don't have the ability to cross-reference Sin # to names. So you can supply a correct sin #
with a fake name assuming you have not had a line with them before.

Don't try to fake you sin # though. The sin # is infact comprised of a mathematical formula such that if certain digits within the sin # are added they sum up to zero. Hence, Bell's computers can easily detect fake sin #s.
