The interior of my condo suite is getting a little tired looking, so I think its time to update the look. I have some clear ideas about how I would like to integrate some natural stone flooring, and some contemporary glass furnishings to match a number of furnishings I already have.

Does anyone have recommendations for interior designers who can help me bring the whole look together? Also, how do these people get paid?

Many thanks for any input. If you like, add a description of any decorating experiences you may have had.

I agree that there is a lot of cost for Interior Designers...

Before I'd go that route, I'll tell you what I do...

Go to model homes/suites for new developments (they do really cool stuff, a great place to get ideas)

Go to chapters and pick up a bunch of home design mags (clip the pictures of the stuff you like)

Most, if not all of what you want to do will already have been done. If you need a designer to help you find contractors for tile, and any other professional stuff then it might be worth their fee.

At the very least having a scrapbook of ideas and things you like will make discussions with an interior designer go much faster and more smoothly.

Really Retired.....REALLY!
If I had to have a designer from Toronto do my home it would be this man and this man only!

Brian Gluckstein.

Gluckstein Design Planning Inc.
161 Dupont Street Toronto M5R 1V5

I couldn;t find a phone number or a website but I am sure he is listed in the phone book.

Another guy in the same league as Brian would be Steven Sabados.

His company is called Sabados Design Group.

Both are not going to be cheap but they are both VERy talented designers!
If you do searches on the web you are sure to come up with tons of info on both of them.

Sounds like a plug for City Line.

I interviewed four interior designers. I realized we weren't on the same page at all and this reinforced one of my biggest motto's in life.....anything they can do I can do better. I educated myself and did it all myself. It took 4 years and I only had to hire 2 contractors. BUT, I DID IT ALL MYSELF!

Good Luck!

Want a designer.....Just walk up Church Street, south of Wellesley, and call out if anyone has a paintbrush.

Steven Sabados would be my favorite as well.

Or, if you aren't in a hurry, check out the W and TLC websites. Most of the design shows have links available to apply to participate, if you want to give up all control and go on television of course.

Its all about personal taste and your attitude towards your own home environment. While I think Gluckstien is good with respect to the use of textures I find his preoccupation with browns to be a bit dated. His early work was much more cutting edge. With success his attitude has become more mainstream. Gluckstien has a more conservative design philosophy.

If you are truly into modern or contemporary design I would recommend II by IV Design. They too would cost money but I do believe they would be cheaper than Gluckstien. They pay a great deal of attention to detail and prefer to use everyday materials in combination with contemporary colors.

Not that it really matters but they are also gay.....

Actually, Gluckstein is very good. And if you want to go really high-end, contact Yabu Pushelberg (if you can afford it).
