So, for those of you that are legal savvy.
What's the best way to protect something not tangible, aka, an idea?
I remember reading/hearing something along the lines of mailing a letter to yourself, not opening it and that somehow is one way.
I'll do more research now, but thought I'd ask here first.

This is what many writers do when trying to sell a manuscript. Send it to yourself via registered mail.

What you are talking about will not work anymore except maybe in the US and even then I think it's more an urban myth then anything else. If you have an idea with some good evidence it will actually work and not some pie-in-the-sky hookum, then you need to file it with the Patent Office.

Most patent offices now work on a first-to-file system, so it doesn't matter who first thought of the idea. Basically, the patent goes to whoever can get their shit together and get a well written patent application in first.

My recommendation is you talk to a Patent Agent, get a patent application ready and file it with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and then listing all the countries you wish to get the patent in. By filing with WIPO you gain the advantage of that earlier filing date as well as a preliminary search and examination. After that, you can deal with each National Office but many of them will follow the WIPO report.

Hey pumpkin .

So you come to a hooker board for legal advice ???

If you are that hard up, I could offer a loan perhaps .

You really want to create a good impression here, don't you?

I am very honest. I really am not concerned with your impression of me at all. I live for my rational thoughts , not to be a slave to your wishes-or anyones for that matter.

Going to a hooker board asking a joke of a question deserves to get an intellectual slap in his face as a wake up call.

I am doing him a favour if he thinks for a moment.

Other people giving him their ridiculous incorrect views on something as important as ''intellectual rights '' is actually not helping this poor lost soul.

You don't bother me at all. I was just trying to give you some friendly advice.
Using the word 'hooker" about the sweet girls, as well as "pimp" about agency owners,
in this forum, is akin to using very derogatory words about Israel and jewish people.
If you don't care about that, neither do I.

No it is not the same you idiot !!!

Hooker and Pimp are words that have meanings that are well defined .A hooker has a definition ( check a dictionary). A person who lives off a prostitute is a pimp- but you can choose another word if it freaks you out.

Because a girl states ''donation'' or ''roses'' instead of dollars tricks no one but you, evidently.

Also , the hookers here might be sweet, or unsweet just like every segment of our society.

Well "kike" is well defined in the dictionary (http://www.m-w.com/), so by your logic it is to be considered an acceptable word for "Jew" correct?

Great choice of words.
The reason that I'm asking here is simple, there are quite a few people that are well knowledged in certain areas as I've noticed before.
Overall, I'd venture to say quite a few people here actually have some intelligence and people skills. You on the other hand, no decorum it seems.
But again, nice choice of words "hooker".

I am sorry I tried to explain it to you.

The fact is that most people on this board find these terms offensive.
I didn't even say that I did.

Chose to believe it or not. Over

More importantly where can I get one? Imagine how much easier buttering corn-on-the-cob would be?

Really ?

So most men engaging in activities that exploit woman find the actions acceptable but the word unacceptable.

And you are the spokesman for the ''most'', right sugarpie ?

You asked how to protect something like an idea .

This is an important question.

Important questions should be asked to someone who understands-in this case an intellectual property lawyer.

I think therefore you have nothing to protect, hence your question is fluff.
