Remember when the USA duped Canada into arresting Chinas Huawei princess? The severing of what used to be good relations started and the decoupling of Canada and China started? Chinese companies were forced to divest etc. In the end the US just slapped her on the wrist. It was all a ploy to capture Canada. And yes Trudeau went along with it and the dumb assed AG JWR advised him poorly. But perhaps President Xi has thrown Canada a bone and sent a signal that he is open tyo reconcilliation. The 15% Chinese tariff on US LNG exports gives Canada an almost unassialable advantage in LNG over the US in trade to China. Is it a signal? I hope the next Canadian govt will explore closer cooperation with China. A good start will be to suspend major defence programs with the USA for a strategic review. That will be a good signal to send to the USA. And included in this should be Canadas place in NORAD and NATO. Canada should say quite plainly the relationship with the USA has become unstable and all must be reconsidered in this context.
