Between a rock and a hard place
I have recrntly learned that I have been bequeathed a nice sum of money.

I am honored and a bit stunned. Noone has ever remembered me in their will before.

It will take some time before the bequeath is executed. Gives me time to decide what to do with the cash!

Invest? Spend? Hobby like a bastage?

I'm thinking fantasy session with a famous porn star or a threesome with champagne and premium chocolate eclairs!

Opinions? Anyone want to share their fantasies?

Throw a big party in a downtown hotel. Rent several adjoining rooms and have an open bar. In addition, rent a couple of dozen bedrooms. Invite all advertisers on terb, including all girls working with said agencies, and pay their rate for the whole night. And invite all posters with at least 700 posts who have been members for at least 4 years. And let the games begin.

In a very dark place
Since money is the root of all evil you should protect your soul by sending me all the money. I am already a lost cause and will make this sacrifice on your behalf in the true spirit of cooperation.

Seriously, if it is a sizable sum ( criteria vary) put it in a secure long term investment and carry on like you already are. Do not under any circumstances ramp up your spending as when the money is gone you will find it tough to return to the old ways. Think of it as a safety net that you don't want to use.

By most criteria it is.

This is by and large what I intend to do. However there will be a portion set aside to spend wildly.

How much?
Not enough to buy a house but still enough to put a new car in the driveway, send two kids to college, and throw Questor's party. I like Questors idea but on a smaller scale. But I'm thinking the post count cutoff at the low end might be more like 3,785 with a higher end cutoff of 3,786.

I can't relate to your new found wealth. I have been wealthy since I formulated my existence and as a result, I have no advice for you.

Coming from Royalty and observing the common SP in their natural habitat is something that makes me excited. I have a database of information about the mating habits of the common SP and I continiously update my database with new information.

First thing, pay off any debts.
If you rent, put a nice chunk down on a house.
Treat yourself to one lady, your all time favourite and share a toast to your benefactor.

Live life well, be comforted by the confidence that you have choices.

My advice is that you take a small portion of your money and have some fun. Maybe $5000.
Give yourself a annual fun allowance. Maybe $5000 for a big splash every year.
Lock the rest away in a long term investment where you can not touch it.
One day you will thank me. Or, amybe one day you will curse yourself :( for not taking my advice. This will depend on what you do.
With money in the bank, you will have choices. Money spent on fantasy SPs will just be a memory.

Quick story,

I know a bastard that got an inheritance of approx $300,000 to $400,000. He was not wise and spent a large amount of money on himself. the rest he invested poorly in a commercial building that no one wants to buy or rent. the bastard will soon loose this building.
Invest wisley.

Go talk to several financial advisor's.
Listen to what they say and observe how well they listen to you.
Assuming it is a sizable chuck of loot, they will have a lot of suggestions on how to preserve your wealth, and / or improve your lifestyle.
If you trust any one of them explore it further.

I like this idea but after consulting with a financial advisor it seems A sizable Real Estate down payment, a modest car, some RESPs for the kiddies and a bit left over to shop, travel or bank for a rainy day will have me back on the paycheque to paycheque treadmill in no time.

This is the type of problem I would love to have. Of course my condolences to the recently deceased. I like Dr. Zoidburg's suggestion of investing it and allow your self some fun money each year.

Thank you for your consolation. She lived a long life - passing away less than 24 months from her hundredth year. The last and second youngest of her siblings, she had amassed the family's fortunes from six directions, invested wisely, lived modestly, and finally spread it around like mortar fire. A large enough piece of the world's wealth shifted with her passing to cause a small earthquake under her bank. I was a lower echelon benefactor and my life was changed significantly. The upper echelon (my parents for example) are going out of their minds.
