Information about touring/travel?

I work as an escort in Vancouver, and I have never done any tours or traveling related to my work.

I'm curious to know more about the working situation in other cities, like Toronto and Montreal. (Actually, I'm interested in information about any major North American cities, so feel free to jump in with any info you may have)

I'm wondering about several things in particular, and any input is appreciated:

-Is it alright to offer incalls from hotel rooms?

-What is the police situation like? Do they try to set up and arrest escorts?

-What is the protocol for setting up dates with clients? Do you ask for references? Are clients comfortable with providing references?

-Do you ever ask for deposits when you tour? (Do you ever ask for deposits when you work in your own city?)

-Are there any serious issues I should be aware of? (I've heard rumours about a certain biker gang being involved in some cities...)

-Do visiting escorts command a higher rate? Or do they charge what the locals charge? (What do the locals charge, anyway? Obviously it's all over the place, I'm sure, but what is the general range?)

-Anything else I should know?

I'll do my best based on what I know.

1. Incalls as an independent are legal as far as I know. It is the agencies that walk a thin line because of the "bawdy house" legalities.
2. The police take a "live and let live" approach. You have nothing to worry about unless you create a public nuisance, have drugs involved, employ underage girls or force girls to work against their will.
3. It is not typical to ask for references, but its not entirely unheard of. Do what makes sense for yourself, but it will scare off a few clients who are not accustomed to this level of scrutiny.
4. I do not know of any girl, local or touring, who asks for deposits in Toronto. It is more common in the USA.
5. Cannot speak to involvement of gangs or organized crime, but for a touring escort I dont imagine that this is an issue.
6. Unless you're have a recognizeable national reputation or stellar (9's and 10's) reviews on TER, charge what the locals charge. The going rate in Toronto ranges from $200 to $300 per hour, with outcalls tending to be higher than incalls.

You should also investigate what the expected level of services are in the market you will be visiting. TRUE GFE vs. SAFE GFE is a huge issue in Toronto in the past year or two, so be sure that you are comfortable offering the services that are most in demand locally.

Some comments:

1. I don't think that you can assume that incalls are legit. Even as an indy, a hotel room can be considered a "bawdy house". The main consideration is the hotel. Some are SP-friendly, some are not (example: Delta Chelsea is definitely not where you want to stay). Generally, as long as you and your clients are discrete, no problem.

2. Deposits? Yeah right. I recall one touring SP who asked for deposits. The backlash was pretty severe. It might work if you are a well-known pornstar.

3. Setting up dates - Well, there's always Craigslist (a crapshoot, frrom what I hear). We also have NOW and EYE (local papers with big erotic classifieds). Your best bet is probably advertising here on Terb and taking appointments with our members (at the very least, you'll be able to search their posting history).

References - no, not so much. My regular gets jealous when I see other SPs

4. Services and rates - My experience is that Toronto is more competitive than the West coast, but not as competitive as Montreal. Touring SPs may be able to charge a little more (limited time offer), but not significantly more.

1. Sorry, I should have phrased the question better. I was not asking about the legality of hotel incalls, since I've already read the Criminal Code. I was mainly just trying to get input on whether clients are used to going to hotels, or if most ladies work out of an apartment. And also, if they will only go to 4 and 5 star hotels, or if 3 star is alright. I'm just trying to get a sense of the "norms".

2. As for deposits, I know a few ladies in Vancouver who don't even leave Vancouver until they have every appointment in the city they're visiting booked and with a deposit paid. I didn't want to bother individuals for information, but it looks like perhaps I should ask them where they are advertising to reach a market that is comfortable with providing deposits.

To me, this seems to make sense. Otherwise, you might get to the other city and get no-shows or even not enough bookings, and then the travel expenses would be a loss.

Of course, I definitely understand why clients would not provide deposits. There is definitely a risk of being taken advantage of, and I'm sure that's happened before. (Unfortunately, that kind of behaviour really ruins it for the rest of us)

Huh? Why would I want to prepay for a Vancouver escort unless I know her or she is famous? There is SOOOO much variety in Toronto, that won't fly.
Perhaps you can get some commitments from terbites ahead of time once we see your pics, rates, and services.
Perhaps you could look at a trip as a working vacation, and focus on covering expenses as opposed to expecting XX dollars of profit? Just a thought.

I completely understand your point of view. I am just trying to get a sense of how touring ladies are received in Toronto.

Your point about a working vacation is an excellent point. It's something I may consider for a city like Montreal (I've never been there, but would like to go). I don't really have an interest in visiting Toronto for tourism, so I am trying to determine what things would be like from a business perspective only.

Well, I've seen indy girls in Toronto who were touring from Vancouver and Montreal...saw them in their hotel room...they never asked for a deposit though, although they did make their bookings in advance from their own city before coming to Toronto. One from Montreal did ask me via e-mail for a reference from someone in the biz, and I gave it, and they did call the ref and ask about me (the ref told me later) and all was well.

Generally I see agency girls and since the agency knows me, they are my ref so to speak in they know me as a repeat customer who doesn't cause problems. Since I know the agency is legit, I know the girl they set me up with is vetted/vouched for and won't rip me off either, so it is win-win for both me and the provider.
