Hey gang, I am not normally a thread starter but I just watched an indie film on The Movie Network that is a must see for all hobbyists.

Its called "The Centre of the WOrld" and is about a computer geek who hires a dancer to go to vegas with him for the weekend.

I mean, i'm no Gene Siskel but this movie rocks. If you're into hollywood big budget movies this isn't for you but it is a well done, well written piece of work.

I'm not going to give away the whole plot, but it is a must see for anyone thinking of hiring an SP to go away with them.

If you watch it, let me know what you thought of it.

Thanks

PS I think the SP's should also see it, but please, DON'T take any notes ok?

If this is the movie I think it is, it's far from a low budget indie.
It's by Wayne Wang, the director of The Joy Luck Club.
It was a major studio release two years ago at the height of the dot.com frenzy. It tanked big time.
Wang is a gay San Francisco filmaker and his perspective is one of alienation, the "Outsider"desperately in search of "Acceptance."
His best movie is "Chan is Missing", the story of two detectives tracking a missing person. An allegory of Asian American angst.

Hmmm well it certainly looked indie and low budget, maybe that's why it tanked?

I think what I found most interesting about it is the way it related directly to some ideas that have been tossed around this site. Taken from the perspective of a hobbyist, it might have more value.

Just my two cents worth and I thought it might be of interest to those thinking of taking an sp on a road trip.

I'll admit it,

I was one of the few suckers to have paid to see it at the theatre.

It makes the premise of taking an SP on a work/vacation trip look like a bad idea, for a variety of reasons.
It did however provide insights into these two individuals' personalities. Tries to represent what type of guy would partake in such a venture. Also shows how the stripper/SP tries to keep it as transaction-like as possible. Shows the guy doing things we would never feel is right or think we would do in that situation.
While the acting was definitely not the greatest, it was quite an original screenplay. Quite graphic at times.
If you really cant find a movie to rent, give it a try.
