they still find old bombs that were planted from world war two.
Ummm, they are still finding unexploded bombs from WWI.....There's a whole team of disposal experts who are kept busy collecting and disposing of them. Supposedly every spring, farmers find them in their fields as they are being lifted out during the freeze thaw cycle just like rocks do.

Not sure if it survived Katrina but there is a pretty moving WWII museum in New Orleans. When I was there they had vets manning the exhibits telling about them as well as relating their stories. It was pretty moving I tell you.

North Africa is still one of the most heavily mined areas of the world from the battles between the British and Germans during WWII.

To all the children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of the men at Normandy,

The brave men who charged into what seemed like what was a sure death yet they never hesitated set the example for all who follow.

I pray you and I find the courage to charge into the face of the enemy when our brain tells us not to. It is only then we will understand what every man on that beach understood.

Thank you.

..and did you know that in the first 24 hrs the Canadian Forces were the ones that had pushed furthest inland to capture their objective out of all the Allies?

I am going to Juno beach this summer, I want to pay my respects to all those who went to help fight the tide of evil.

Many other war memorials/battlefields are remarkably close to Juno. Vimy, Beaumont-Hamel (and other WWI sites), Arromanches, the other D-Day beaches, are all within a couple hours' drive. Dieppe is only about 3 hours away too. Don't forget to try some Calvados....

CG - I agree, going to Juno without going to (at the least) Vimy and Dieppe would be a shame. I have a trip planned as well and as soon as my kids are old enough to appreciate the significance we will go.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the veterans, including a couple that used to post here, that gave so much for future generations.
