Thanks for the advice... I was already there, but vigilence is important especially with dangerous hobbies like mountain climbing or mongering .

When ever I call SP I DON'T use my cell phone that is in my name ..I will use the pay phone or a disposable cell phone

As far as email address I will use one from hotmail or the likes......to keep it private.

or even....

SkypeIN

You can get a phone number in a number of different cities and you can have multiple accounts, ie Family friendly account, hobby account. 15 dollars would get you a whole pile of long distance minutes at 2 cents a minute.

If your favourite SP has a computer the call is completely free. It's also 256 bit encrypted and very difficult to intercept and if someone does manage to intercept it, decrypting it is...well...more work than it is worth.

If you travel it might be an ideal way to stay in touch with anyone you want to.

hahha I bet you do. Skype is cool though. Not many know about it, too bad that it was bought out by an American sympithizer. Black box is on it now. Don't say nasty things about GWB on it or I will see you on CNN... NSA and all.

I am sure the SPs just love it when you wear the beenie during a visit!!! LOL
It depends on where I wear it ;)

Actually I was reading an article today on CNET ( which I can't find at the moment ) And the NSA is not happy about SKYPE at all for this very reason. Any level of encryption makes real time, passive evesdroping impossible. If they have a suspected target, weak encryption could be defeated fairly easily. however There are some important differences with SKYPE, 256 bit encryption takes years to break ( even for the NSA ) making it worthless by the time the conversation is decoded. 2) Finding a phone conversation in the sea of IP traffic is a whole lot more difficult than finding traditional telephone conversations.

It's acutally an uncomfortably scary security loophole. Further SKYPE is out of the UK I think so it would a little more difficult for dubya to exercise influence over them, however they are allies and no one wants terrorism.

Good to hear, I was worried they were gonna put the black box in the middle! I like free products like this. Got a buddy that talks to Euorpe alot and has only spent a few Euros doing it. Beats the hell out of Vonage too.

I suspect they will get some level of cooperation from the company but hopefully it's limited to people they have a reason to suspect rather than anyone and everyone.

Obviously not everyone is not interested the technology behind this kind of service so we can save that discussion for another day.

Suffice it to say, for a hobbiest looking for a way to provide a phone number to an SP this solution has some real benefits. It's cheap, reliable, portable and has justifiable benefits to significant others in one's life. It's also secure enough to eliminate danger of someone trying to electronically overhear the conversation.

P.S. You don't actually have to wear the beenie that comes with the phone in order to get a good signal.
