- I just awoke this morning at 5am to discover my microwave was on fire!!! ....... I sometimes fall asleep on the couch after watching t.v. and somehow awoke to the smell of smoke ..... I look to the kitchen and hear my microwave running??? ..... I leap from the couch and quickly pull the plug ..... after finding my wits about me Im shocked to find a stash of money I keep hidden in the microwave (dont ask why) half burned up. My question is: Can a bank replace burnt bills? ..... Im literally shaking right now as I realize this could've been alot worse had I actually slept in my closed bedroom :(

Thanks

Only way to find out is to take them to the bank...Put on your best red face look..

I'm pretty shure bank employees have heard a lot of stories as to what happened to the cash. :D

Yes

A local bnk can not do it, but the bank of canada will do it free of charge, an any bill they can make out the serial number of.

- I was pooling money for a vacation to Prauge on Jan 31, and have just always used the microwave as a temporary safe .... my guess is the microwave was on the fritz? (its only 6 months old) or my kitten somehow turned it on.

- What story should I give the bank? .... Just tell them the truth?. The bills are mostly there, some had just the metal strip on them catch fire.

I bought a big LG micro about 6 months ago. After about 2 months a bag of 4 bagels fell out of the cupboard and landed on top of the micro....it came on. The timer said 0min but the light was on and the tray was turning. I found if you banged the top right side of the micro in came on.....go figure. RETURNED !!!

I gotta stop checking out the medicine cabinets of my friends' houses when I go there and check out their microwaves instead.

Self-starting microwaves nuking hidden stashes of cash. Damn ... the things you learn on TERB ... :p

BTW, if you're too embarassed to own up to the truth, just deposit the burnt $$$ into your account via a bank machine. Then a few days later withdraw it. Presto! New unburnt money! Of course, you may still get a call from the bank, but it's worth a shot.

Bank of Canada will replace them. Be honest, you stored it in a microwave and accidentially turned it on.

You might get a funny look since its 5 grand but..... legal tender is still legal tender
Don't touch the unburnt portion. Keep burnt portion and the ashes in a big envelop and bring all to the bank.

A long time ago, I deposited a 3/4 of $10 bill, I actually got 3/4 of the bill value, $7.5.

I doubt that you'll get all your money back, but at least some.
