I switched to Cable a while ago, and am paying more than $65, but am getting much higher speeds on the Internet piece than DSL at its best.

I saved $50/month switching my phone to cable (Cogeco; unlimited North American long distance, unlike Rogers). Had a couple of technical issues at first, but they jumped all over them and fixed them within 24 hours (my schedule, not theirs).

The final straw was BELL throttling my supposed 7MBs broadband down to 300 kbs, thats almost dial-up speed FFS.
And for that I'm paying almost $70 per month on top of my regular $60 phone bill

No caps and no throttling with Primus

Keep in mind that Bell throttles all the other DSL providers as well. However, you are going to save money.

P.S. to LolRus: And I bet Bell stole your bukkit.

Primus speeds on DSL would match Bell's speeds. Bell's network, after all, although they probably don't throttle like Bell. And DSL is definitely slower than Cable.

I've had Rogers, and was happy, but it was getting slower. I moved and am in a Cogeco area, and the speed difference was astounding. It is blistering fast, and I've been here a number of years and it's gotten quicker as they upgrade their network. I dread the day Rogers buys Cogeco, and I hope they never do.

Primus supposedly (along with other carriers) won that throttling court case, so AFAIK they dont throttle

I have been using Primus TBB for a number of years now. It is very reliable and the call quality is no different than regular land line.

Court case? I thought it was an issue brought before the CRTC and the CRTC left the throttling in place. Would be happy to learn otherwise.

Class action suit filed last year, I thought I read somewhere that they won: http://www.electronista.com/articles/08/05/30/bell.can.throttling.suit/

Also Primus can say they dont throttle but that doesnt mean that BELL wont do the throttling for them (since they use BELL's phone lines).
Either way, it cant be much worse than what I have now, BELL is throttling the living shit out of my broadband on a daily basis

Yup CRTC forced the phone companies to open their lines to other providers long ago.

Howcum all you cable-bound folks haven't demanded they do the same to Rogers, Shaw and Cogeco? Shouldn't there be the same competition in offering you TV you might want instead of what they choose to bundle?

And Rogers also throttles—although they call it 'traffic-shaping'.

Look at the date of those posts. And note that it's Bell that throttles even though you have Primus or whatever other DSL you may switch to.

Well....I'll find out soon enough if they throttle.
Either way I'm cutting my internet bill in half, and I dont have to deal with HELL anymore

I just called up Primus again, asked them this:

Me: "Does Primus throttle"???
Primus chickie: "No, we do not sir"
Me: "Does BELL do the throttling for you, since they own the line"???
Primus chickie: "No, they are not allowed"
Me: "Can I get a blowjob with my Primus service"???
Primus chickie: *ends conversation* :D

Seriously, she ensured me there's no throttling with Primus and no caps!
