I heard that if you book at a hotel (on the spot) you can get a better rate than if you book ahead online. Has anyone tried this?

I went to Vegas without a hotel reservation once. Everyone was booked up and the only place I could find a room was at the Imperial Palace (not exactly the Bellagio...or the Flamingo for that matter).

I'd make a reservation in advance, especially if you're going on a weekend. Expedia has some good package deals for flight and airfare, you may want to check those out (unless you've already booked your flight). A lot of the hotels have web specials as well.

Vegas is so much fun. Have a great time.

Stayed at Imperial Palace number of times just because I've gotten good packages (4 nights, transfers, hotel) from Toronto. Location is excellent, and while the hotel itself is not top-of-the-line you likely won't spend a lot of time in your room. (Unless, of course hobbying is the main part of your visit!!)

Enjoy!!!! :)

Book ahead

You may or may not get a good deal "on the spot", but you risk getting shut out of a place you might really want to stay at. Get prices from all the hotels on an internet search engine, and then call the hotels you are interested in to see if they give you a better rate directly. I have also stayed at the Imperial Palace several times, and this is a great budget hotel in a great location, with decent cheap food. You will also find cheap rooms at the Riviera, Circus Circus, and Sahara, but these are in poorer locations. The IP is probably your best value.

Make a Bet for me

I forgot, put $20 on the Colts to win the next Super Bowl. You can probably get 8:1 now.

You guys are right. The Imperial Palace has one of the best locations on the strip. If you're going for a great deal, it would be your best bet. Bally's is also a good spot, not too much more pricey than IP and in my opinion, a nicer hotel.

I have to agree with Gord. Stayed at the Imperial, last year in February, during the week it was only $ 49 us per night - u can't even get a motel here for that.
The location is excellent - right on the strip, near all the major hotels. The hotel itself is nothing to write home about and the rooms are pretty average but who cares cause you don't spend much time in them anyways.

Enjoy yourself !!

I agree that the location of the IP is terrific, but it is a dump. However, I stay there, and spend the savings at a great restaurant at Paris.... called Mon Ami Gabi. They have terrific food and wine, and an outdoor patio. You are sitting, watching the passerbys, and then all of a sudden, the fountains from Bellagio go off. Outstanding!!!!! worth staying at the Palace

I think joining the club helps ...

I stayed at the Flamingo for $55/night - no, its not the Bellagio, but it was nice, clean, friendly, the food was great (when they bought me my dinner - King Crab and Steak!) and nicely placed on the strip.

p.s. Put a $32 spread down for me at a noisy craps table after the point has been made. Pull up the wins, let the bet ride!

Try...

www.hoteldiscounts.com Good bargains if you go the right time, ie: no conventions. Its prepaid in US$ and charges for change. If you book online last min, picture will be high. Major demage to your wallet, if you walk-in to hotels on the strip.

Bally and Paris have promotional discounts during off-seasons. Pay a bit more than IP but worth it imo. If location not important and you want to save money, La Quinta, Comfort, Ramada off the strip are good value.
Save yourself some $ with coupons from
http://www.roomsaver.com/
read the fine print.

If you take taxi from hotel, tell them to stay off the strip as you are likely to be stuck in traffic for time and $ as all the tourist cruise the strip eyeing the sights.

Have fun. Viva...
