I went there yesterday and no illegal English DVD movies were to be found. A few stores were closed and others stores only had Chinese and Philipino movies.

I then went to another Chinese mall at Sheppard and Brimley and the same thing.

Does anyone know about a recent raid and when they will start selling them again.

Thank you.

I've had problems buying in the past. I'm a tall white guy = people think I'm LE. I've had it from MPA's on occasion as well. At the mall, I've had a hard time during the day. A friend told me that the people that enforce this sort of thing only work during the day, and that the movies come out of hiding at night. So that might be worth a shot. :)

LOL you're not advocating doing something illegal are you?

That's against terb policy.........:)

BTW: maybe you can explain it to me, why on earth would anyone pay $10.00 for an obviously illegal and often corrupt DVD when you can wait a month or two and buy a legit perfect copy at Blockbuster? Is it the fact that it is illegal, or the fact that you just can't wait to view it?

for starters, because $10 doesn't buy you 1, it buys you 4 or 5. Next months blockbuster isn't corrupt and has extras but certainly will be much more expensive.

So, you're telling me someone sells a pre-recorded DVD, with a case, or envelope or ? for $2.00? So, figure the retailer is making $1,00 someone is going to risk arrest and copyright infringement jail time for maybe a grand a week? if that? And for that grand they have to sell 1,000 dvds.....

Put it this way: if they ARE selling them for $2.00 each? They deserve what they get....the only time I"ve been offerred them they were $10.00 each....

going price these days are usally 10 dvd's for 20 or 8 for 20 depending on time of week at pmall .

these are mostly screeners and not of DVD-Realse but hey seeing the crap they let hit the screens these days even if 4 of those movies are of good quality they will still be worth it

Well, to each his own then because if one pays even $2.00 for a piece of shit copy of a movie, it's still a POS....

I've watched more than a couple of these "promo" and bootleg copies and frankly, I've felt like having to buy or rent the movie so I could actually watch it this time.....

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
PV at Blockbuster and Rogers...

Yeah, they've already rented it out about 50 times, and they still want $15-$20 for it...

If the bootleg is okay, and it's a good movie then I'll buy it when it comes out, otherwise they can take a hike with their overblown prices.

But if it's a POS movie then you've only wasted $2, and not $15 in the theatre, or $20-$25(new) when it comes out.

I meant a pos copy of the movie...

As for blockbuster, I rarely pay more than 10 bucks for any of their movies. They constantly have 2 fer 20 2 fer 16 etc on. Just recently they had 2 fer 20 and get your 3rd free....that works out to be about 6 bucks each.

I've never had a problem with any of their previously viewed movies and even if you do? They have a 30 day warranty.

Plus, if you watch one, and take it back, you'll get 5 or 6 bucks for it so if you paid 10, you've only invested 4 bucks to watch a perfect copy of the movie.

You can harp all you want but at least I am not breaking any laws........you'll never convince me that buying a shit copy of a first run movie is the "right" thing to do.....

I would think the pirate business would be cheap downloads of mp4s.....

i dont know how they do, but when im back in thailand they sell movies there that is available on dvd even a month before its in the movie theater!!! many times i bought a dvd and get back to canada and i saw it 3 times before its even open at the amc!!
Well, movies are released at different times in different parts of the world, and I've seen some of those....I especially found the people's heads in the way distracting lol and the thai subtitles just made it all that much more enjoyable....

But (and you'd think they'd learn) the studios sell the distribution rights to various companies and they produce promo copies to give to various execs, special customers (like Hugh Hefner, he gets unreleased movies for private viewing all the time) and then these copies filter down through the ranks and eventually copies are made and distributed/sold under the counter. Everywhere along this production distribution chain there are oppurtunities for someone to make a copy.

See, IMO a production company has a right to make money off their labour. If it costs them 10 million to make a movie, they have every right to make 5 or 10 million back off that investment.

Now if I were working for any studio/production company I'd be investing heavily into expiration date type DVDs. Ones that allow the disc to be played once, then become corrupted.

One thing I DON'T agree with however is like what happened with AVP requiem: The guy at blockbuster told me they were directed by Head Office to destroy 100 copies of the movie before they put it in the resell rack. This way they a) keep the resell cost up b) lessen the cost of storing the copies and c) get to write off the destroyed DVDs as a loss.

Yes, although it's $5 a piece or 6 for $25 These are production quality pressed DVD9 with embossed cardboard inserts and sleeves. All that's missing is the plastic case. It's virtually indistinguishable from regular production and can will be at Pacific Mall as much as 6 months before they are sold at stores here.

The only difference from regular production is that they have Chinese as an alternate/additional sound track instead of French

One of the stores in First Markham used to rate their DVDs so you'd know the quality you're getting. A 10/10 meant it was a pure rip and a 4/10 was a cam job. lol
